SOUTH Australia has announced tougher rules about crossing the border from Victoria.
SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said only South Australian residents travelling from Victoria would be allowed to quarantine for 14 days after arrival.
People not residing in South Australia who do not meet the essential traveller criteria would not have that option, he said.
Essential travellers would be required to undertake quarantine activities when they are not carrying out their essential duties.
“This will include the use of PPE, including masks, when they’re interacting with the South Australian community,” Mr Stevens said.
“Cross-border communities will also be restricted in the number of kilometres that they believe able to travel when they come into South Australia as a cross-border traveller.”
The stronger controls take effect from midnight Wednesday.
“We’re currently consulting with the Australian Defence Force in relation to supporting the South Australia Police in achieving this outcome,” Mr Stevens said.
“New South Wales and ACT (residents) will still be able to travel to South Australia and undertake a 14-day quarantine period.”
