BORDER residents who wish to apply for a permit to enter New South Wales under tightened restrictions can now apply on the Service NSW website.
The permit application page was updated Tuesday afternoon.
New permits will feature a QR code, whereas the previous permits featured a letter.
The new restrictions take effect at midnight Tuesday and delays were expected at Sunraysia checkpoints.
Anyone who obtained a permit under the previous system must apply for a new permit.
For border residents, a much narrower zone applies under the new system — an address check tool was launched earlier in the week.
Border resident permit holders can only cross to the other state to go to work if they can’t work from home, go to school, attend an educational institution if they can’t learn from home, or obtain medical care, supplies or health services.
If a NSW resident goes into Victoria for any reason other than these, or if they travel beyond the border zone, there will be a 14-day isolation requirement when they return.
NSW residents are not restricted from travelling within the state.
Border residents applying using the new system are asked: “Have you travelled in Victoria outside the border zone in the last 14 days?”
Those who answer “yes” are told: “Unfortunately you’re not eligible for a COVID-19 NSW border declaration permit.”
