Tenacious runners ready for racing

MURRAY Bridge trainer Sarah Rutten has built up a handy team after obtaining her licence early last year and can continue her recent run of success at the bet365 Mildura race meeting at Sandilong Park this Saturday.

Sarah Rutten, who had a long association with the training partnership of Tony and Calvin McEvoy was thrilled with her success during the recently completed racing season by achieving 29 wins and 43 placings over the past 12 months.

The stable has three top winning hopes at the meeting with She’s Ternacious, Obi and Revolution Belle.

She’s Ternacious had a stint in Victoria with Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde and then moved to SA to join David Jolly and after two race starts was then moved on again to Sarah Rutten.

The six-year-old bay mare has had three starts for her new stable and has put the writing on the wall for an overdue victory after coming from the rear of the field to finish second behind the leader and eventual winner Boltonova at Mildura on July 19.

“As she ran so well at Mildura last time, I decided to bring her back again,” Rutten said.

“Being a bit of an older mare you would think she would want soft tracks, but that is not the case as prefers to run on good tracks so the surface will be perfect for her.”

The stable mate Obi will take some beating in the Mildura Motor Holdings 0-58 Handicap as the nine-year-old can continue his consistent form.

Obi achieved a smart win at Balaklava three starts ago and then ran well at Murray Bridge last Saturday when fifth behind the promising galloper Thermodynamic.

“He is on the quick back up after racing last weekend, but he does well in between runs and it is a suitable race as he drops back in grade and he will be quite competitive,” Rutten said.

The third stable representative is Revolution Belle who along with She’s Ternacious is owned by the Grand Syndicates Group.

“Grand Syndicates have come on board with us recently and I am happy to have their support. Hopefully we can bring up the first win for them with us at Mildura as I have only had a few starters for them so far,” Rutten said.

“I expect her (Revolution Belle) to go well as I can’t fault her trackwork and trials.”

SA jockey Caitlin Jones will make a rare trip to the district to ride at the Mildura meeting and has five rides on the program including She’s Ternacious and Obi for the Rutten stable.

Jones has enjoyed a top association with the Rutten stable as has a 25 percent winning strike rate with six wins from 24 rides.

“Caitlin rides a lot of work for us and is a hard worker. It was hard to get jockeys for our horses at the meeting, so I was happy when Caitlin decided to give up rides at Morphettville on the same day and to come and ride at the Mildura meeting instead,” Rutten said.

The Mornington stable of Pat Carey and Harris Walker will be hoping to make the long trek worthwhile when they make the journey with Aberlutely and Test By Fire, who are both well suited in their respective races at Mildura this Saturday.

The first of seven races on the program is the Mildura & District Real Estate Maiden Plate to be run at 1.11pm and jockey Caitlin Jones can get her day off to a winning start with the Phillip Stokes trained lightly raced mare Sectors.

The Big Screen will be on-course for viewing of the local races as well as the metropolitan races at Moonee Valley, Morphettville and Randwick.

Entry to the meeting is free of charge.
