Wentworth netballers to have unfinished business in 2021

WENTWORTH A Grade SFNL netball coach Amanda Edwards says her side will have scores to settle in 2021.

The star goaler will continue as the Roos coach coming off a 2019 runners-up finish to Ouyen United and is keen to take her side one step further.

“There’s obviously a bit of unfinished business from last year,” Edwards said.

“We had a really great season and unfortunately just couldn’t pull off that final game.

“With everything going on this year we’ve got a lot of girls eager to go and I’m super-keen to take on the role again.”

Wentworth finished top of the ladder in 2019 with 14 wins, one loss and a draw from the home-and-away season, however were beaten by the Kangas 48-44 on grand final day.

Edwards said the club had held its 2020 selection trials before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the league to shut down and eventually cancel the season, with most of the players prepared to go around again.

“Hopefully, there’s been a few pregnancies (Edwards included, due in October) and things like that. The girls have also probably enjoyed a little time off here and there,” she said.

“Not ideal circumstances but hoepfully, fingers crossed, we can get a majority of the girls back on board.”

Edwards said it was disappointing to not be able to play this year.

“We were so eager and keen to get started, we had a cracker preseason,” she said.

“It will be interesting to see what happens, I guess. It’s still a long way, away and an unknown with what is going to happen next year.”
