Golden chance for Gol Gol

IT remains tight near top the top four of Sunraysia Cricket Association Women’s action with three rounds remaining before finals.

While Mildura Settlers and Mildura West are finals bound, and third-placed Nichols Point Gold are almost home, fourth position is still there for the taking with current position holders Coomealla Wentworth having the bye this week.

The team sitting closest is Gol Gol, however they face a tough clash on Friday against Point Gold in Nichols Point.

Gold held off a determined Merbein by eight runs last week, led by superb 35 from Alina Kirirua-Gill with Teoi Kirirua-Gill adding 20 of her own.

Their fielding was also outstanding with run outs accounting for three of the four wickets.

Gol Gol, who are coming off the bye, have been led by the Collihole girls all season, Emily leading the wicket-taking with 12 wickets, Megan grabbing 11 with 155 runs, and Abby scoring 221 runs to go with her eight scalps.

Abby Collihole eight wickets, 221 runs

Sixth-placed Mildura East will need a win over Settlers at MSP on Friday to keep themselves in the finals hunt.

While they lost to West by seven wickets last week, a strong batting performance led by Caitlin Finch (33 not out), Sienna Charles (28) and Gemma Higgins (23 not out) ensured the reigning premiers took until the final over to win.

The ladder leaders won by 10 wickets against an understrength Irymple last week, Shania McKinnon retiring not out on 48, Ella Dingwall finishing unbeaten on 26, and Jess de Tarczynski taking a superb 4/8 from eight overs.

Merbein also remain in the hunt as they host eighth-placed Irymple at Chaffey Park.

Eden and Callie Trinick both performed well with the ball taking two wickets each during the opening innings against Point Gold, before Laylee Trinick made an equal season-high 40 as the Magpies just fell short in the run chase.

The Swallows put up a fight against a strong opposition, Kirsty Carter being the standout with 34 with the bat, her best innings of the season.

Unfortunately Nichols Point Green had to forfeit last week’s match against Coomealla Wentworth and they are scheduled to face West at John Hall Oval.

For the reigning premiers, Tara Martin took two wickets during the East innings before Lorianne Lowerson top scored with 33 during the successful run chase, with Martin adding 22 and Maddison Cesco 20.
