The Quest of Beauty

March 1, 1923

All in the Good Cause of Sweet Charity

The Mildura Grand Carnival committee are leaving nothing to chance in regard to the Beauty Contest, and the prospects of success are much brighter than the original forecast.

The campaign is well organised and will be pursued with the utmost activity until March 15, when entries close.

After that the committees of the different candidates will carry on.

Once every girl and district comes the moment to decide, and Mr M.J. Kelly, the president, intends to help them to decide.

Next Saturday he will speak to Red Cliffs and will point out that as all the money from the contest is to be given to the hospital, which has urgent need of it, a girl should not mind coming into the limelight.  And Mr. Kelly will no doubt convince his Red Cliffs audience that it is their duty to make themselves actively interested in the movement.

On the following Saturday, March 10 Mr. Kelly, who will be accompanied by the secretary (Mr. W.R. Haythorpe) will go to Merbein in connection with the matter and will speak at the picture entertainments.

Mr. Kelly is visiting Ouyen within ten days or a fortnight and while there he will get in touch with the hospital committee and others interested in the Beauty Contest.

Int he meantime nominations are coming in well.

The Caledonian Society is nominating a cadidate and many other bodies are considering the question.

The Mildura Club committee will have it up for disucssion at their next meeting.

Much secrecy is being maintained in regard to likely candidates, but it should be pointed out that the sooner they make up their minds to enter the sooner their committees will set to work and thus enhance their chances of success.
