New role to drive Wentworth tourism

WENTWORTH Shire Council is investing in tourism to its region through a new senior management position.

Interviews will be conducted over the next fortnight for the council’s new manager of tourism and promotion.

General manager Ken Ross said the successful applicant would be responsible for the promotion and marketing of Wentworth Shire as a vibrant destination for visitors and enhance a supportive environment for developing sustainable business opportunities.

“The new role will develop a strong, cohesive and enthusiastic team through professional innovative and progressive management to be guide the future of Wentworth as a genuine place of destination,” he said.

Wentworth is considered the gateway to Outback NSW, and its location on the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers in south-western New South Wales has proven popular

The council identified the tourism industry as a key driver of growth for the shire in its local strategic planning statement adopted this year.

However the new role will extend to duties beyond tourism as well.

“Further to this the position holder is critical in the facilitation, planning and delivery of appropriate economic development, tourism and event initiatives within the Wentworth Local Government Area,” Mr Ross said.

“As an integral part of the role the officer will be accountable for the management of our library services throughout the shire ensuring that the needs and aspirations of the diverse community are being met.”
