T20 for juniors touted

THE Sunraysia Cricket Association is offering a knockout junior Twenty20 competition to run before Christmas.

The SCA’s junior advisory committee suggested the format, which will be run on Sundays from 10am on November 8 until December 6.

“There were thoughts around running a separate Twenty20 comp just for a bit of fun, something different for the kids to expose them a little bit to Twenty20 cricket,” SCA president Andrew Farlie said.

The slated age groups will be under 16, under 14 and under 12.

“Depending on how it progresses there’s possibility it could run in individual years, so 15, 14, 13, 12, 11 – just depending on how clubs take it up,” Farlie said.

“It’s a bit of a formative idea at the moment, just finding out how keen the clubs are to play an extra format of cricket.”

The plan is to use synthetic wickets to alleviate pressure on ground curators who are preparing pitches for Friday and Saturday competitions.

Entries will be taken up until November 4, with the link on the SCA website.

Rain has affected the first two weeks of junior cricket  in 2020, with turf games washed out in round 1 and only under 14 girls able to proceed in round 2.

Senior men’s and women’s cricket is scheduled to start this week, weather permitting.
