A spirited bounce in promotion of Mildura

MILDURA’s tourism body has launched a new initiative to promote the region, by joining forces with a national basketball team.

Following on from Visit Mildura signage being displayed at a number of AFL games, Mildura Regional Development (MRD) has collaborated with Women’s National Basketball League team Bendigo Spirit.

MRD CEO Brett Millington said Visit Mildura branding would appear on the Bendigo Spirit uniforms and court signage at home games, which are broadcast on a number of paid and free-to-air TV stations.

He said MRD’s TV campaign would also be played on the big screen at Bendigo Stadium.

“Regional Victoria is a key visitor market to our region and we hope this will encourage and inspire the people of Greater Bendigo to consider travelling to Mildura,” Mr Millington said.

“Like the football, we’re hoping this exposure helps people familiarise themselves with our region, want to travel here, and also make our locals feel proud to be represented at such a high level.”

Mr Millington said it was important for Sunraysia locals to embrace and help promote the region as a great tourism destination.

“There is no stronger influence than word-of-mouth recommendations from proud and knowledgeable regional ambassadors,” Mr Millington said.

Bendigo Stadium’s marketing and commercial partnerships manager said they signed on to the collaboration for the greater good of Victoria’s regions.

“The Spirit have an obligation to all the people of regional Victoria. We strive to be an inspiration for all young people in regional communities dreaming big,” he said.

“We see our partnership with Mildura as a significant step toward our goal and look forward to providing a national sporting link for the Sunraysia region.”
