Jason Modica ‘stoked’ at Mildura sports precinct funding

MILDURA Mayor Jason Modica has lauded the landmark $10 million funding announcement in Tuesday’s State Budget for the Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct.

Cr Modica is confident the city will be able to attract major events when the project is completed.

“Build it and they will come,” he said.

“So many people are going to benefit from this state-of-the-art facility when it’s opened – and I’m just stoked the funding has come through to finish it.

“It shows MFR (Mildura Future Ready) was a bold decision to make a number of years ago. But when you have an overall plan, you can get things done.”

Cr Modica said the final $10 million funding from the State Government was the result of strong advocacy from the local community’s political and sporting leaders.

“This amazing result shows what can be achieved when a community bands together, side by side, to achieve a goal.”

He welcomed the $5.9 million funding for Merbein P-10 College where, as a tradie, “I did some work on the school’s cooking wing”.

“This will be great to see the upgrade works finished on the school,” he said.

“Merbein is a growing area and it’s important to service its education needs.”
