Stars shine for West
WHEN you are 5/43, it’s a good time for your leaders to stand up.
That’s exactly what happened for Mildura West on the weekend against Nichols Point.
Skipper Luke Hickey came out with his side in dire straights, joining vice-captain Ben Hallam.
133 runs later, Mildura West were in a winning position, with Hallam scoring 71 runs for his side and Hickey 63.
Fairlie hard to hit
IS Dean Fairlie the hardest bowler to get away in the competition?
The Irymple quick has bowled at least five overs in four out of five matches he has played this year with his “worst” figures being 1/22 from five.
His past two games, either side of the two-week break due to bad weather, have been 7.4 overs and 3/7 followed by seven overs for 4/13 at the weekend against Mildura East.
Overall, Fairlie’s economy rate is 2.01 runs an over from just fewer than 30 overs, with 11 wickets at an average of 5.36.
T20 double-headers
THIS weekend is a double-header Twenty20 round for the SCA.
In First Division, Nichols Point host Irymple and Mildura East, Coomealla Wentworth host Mildura East and Irymple at Coomealla, Mildura West welcome Workers Gol Gol and Settlers to John Hall Oval and Merbein South host Settlers and Workers Gol Gol. Second Division will also have a double-header while Third Division and Fourth Division play single fixtures.
Aworth rocks Tempy
TAKE a bow, Jeremy Aworth.
The Cardross quick finished with the amazing figures of 5/10 against Tempy in Red Cliffs B Grade cricket at the weekend.
His six overs included two maidens, while only one dismissal was assisted by a teammate — Darcy Cresp caught behind by Shane Bobbin.
He knocked over three other batsmen, while also claiming a caught and bowled.
With figures like that, it wasn’t surprising Tempy were rolled for just 38 and Cardross cruised to a five-wicket win in 11 overs.
