Juniors earn selection

SOME of the emerging stars of Sunraysia junior netball have earned their place in representative squads for tournaments and carnivals this year.

Sunraysia Football and Netball League will be represented by teams at 11-and-under, 13-and-under, 15-and-under, and 17-and-under level across 2025.

More than 250 juniors took part in recent trials with the final selections made during the week.

SFNL junior netball representative coordinator Michelle Beswick said there is a lot of excitement for the opportunity to represent the region this season.

“We had over 250 players trailing over the four different age groups so it’s been a big month, but we’re really impressed by the calibre of young players who have made it through,” she said.

“It’s great to see so many clubs represented as well, the talent is across the entire league.

“Now that we’ve reintroduced the under-11 side these girls can hopefully be part of these squads for next six or seven years.

“Especially for the 11-and-under and 13-and-under age groups, it’s potentially for the first opportunity for a number of these girls to play carnival netball so it’s really exciting.

“We’ve also got a lot of great coaches involved as well and again from multiple clubs which is brilliant to see.”

The 11-and-under squad will play in Echuca and District Netball Association carnival on May 18, and in the Loxton Carnival in South Australia at the end of June.

The 13, 15, and 17-and-under teams will compete in the Central Victoria Netball Association tournament in Bendigo on June 1, and the 25th Netball Victoria Association Championships in Melbourne at the end of the same month.
