$5m Mildura OTR store and Mexican restaurant set to go

THE Mildura flagship OTR store will open its doors on Thursday after months of delays.

The $5 million project, at the corner of Deakin Avenue and Fifteenth Street, took just 10 months to build, but COVID-19 restrictions and border closures threw a spanner in the works after it was scheduled to open last November.

It is the second OTR store in Sunraysia, joining the Irymple OTR, which opened in 2015, and Victoria’s sixth for the South Australian fuel and convenience retailer.

The store will offer a premium range of BP fuel, barista-made C Coffee, Moe’s New York-style hot dogs and shakes, OTR-branded foods and supermarket essentials.

Travellers and locals will be able to pay for their fuel at the pump and pre-order coffees, food and collection-ready items through the OTR app.

The store also features north-west Victoria’s first Guzman y Gomez Mexican restaurant, which will be open 8am until 11pm daily for dining in, delivery and takeaway.

To celebrate its opening, the restaurant will offer $5 burritos and bowls from 11am until 9pm on Thursday.

OTR general manager Darryl Cotter thanked local tradespeople for their persistent work throughout the challenging delays.

“The project employed mainly locals throughout construction, boosting local employment with over 50 jobs,” he said.

“We think the final result looks absolutely amazing, with the building acting as an iconic gateway into Mildura.”

The new store will employ 37 local workers, including store manager Shane Linahan, who has managed OTR Irymple for the past six months.

“OTR is a passionate and local Australian family business, committed to generating jobs and investing in the future of Australia,” Mr Cotter said.
