Irymple wins Twenty20 final after Coghlan masterclass

DAN Coghlan has delivered another matchwinning performance on grand final day for Irymple.

But this time, the McLeod medallist who has stood up on the big occasions on the footy field for the Swallows, produced an all-round cricket masterclass to lead his team to the Twenty20 title over Workers Gol Gol on Sunday.

Coghlan, who represented Victoria at junior level as a cricketer, returned the brilliant figures of 2/17 from his four overs to help restrict Workers to just 108 from their 20 overs, before he was later run out for 43 off 33 balls as Irymple cruised home with nine balls to spare.

In what may be a preview to the main grand final this season, Workers Gol Gol were never able to get their innings flowing against the best bowling attack in Sunraysia cricket.

West Indian import Shac Thomas was the mainstay with the bat, making a well compiled 52 off 51 balls.

The typically aggressive Aiden Calarco was well subdued with 3 off 10 balls, and Wade Hancock had to earn every run, scratching out 24 off 37 balls, as Workers struggled to find any momentum in the middle overs.

As usual, it was a team performance by the Irymple attack, with six bowlers used and rarely a loose ball offered, keeping Workers to 6/108.

The early onslaught by Coghlan made the run chase relatively simple, with Mark Thomson (18), Wade Minter (15 not out), Bryson Lush (11) and Jarred Armden (11) all chipping in.
