Murrayville Recreation Reserve ‘needs new complex’, says MP

THE Victorian Government has been urged to fund upgraded facilities at Murrayville Recreation Reserve.

Member of Mildura Ali Cupper told State Parliament on Friday there was a dire need for an upgraded sporting complex at Murrayville.

“To say the facilities at Murrayville Recreation Reserve are outdated and dilapidated is an understatement,” Ms Cupper said.

“The men’s changing room seriously looks like an antique shearing shed and the women’s change facilities are non-existent.

“New changing rooms for both men and women, a kitchen, an undercover viewing area and social facilities are sorely needed.

“I urge the Victorian Government to consider investment in this project to help heal the Murrayville community through its post-COVID recovery.”

Ms Cupper told Parliament the Murrayville community had been particularly hard hit by COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions and especially border closures imposed by the South Australian Government.

“It is fair to say that Murrayville deserves some positivity, and one way to heal their social fabric and to restore their faith would be through some genuine government investment in their sports infrastructure,” she said,

“Sport, as we know, can unite small rural communities in quite a powerful way. Murrayville needs a new sporting complex.”
