Sunraysia Cricket Association: Round 20 Snapshot

Mildura West v Workers Gol Gol

MILDURA West could be inside the top four tonight if they can upset the ladder leaders today.

Alternatively their season could be over.

Fourth-placed Coomealla-Wentworth sit half a game clear of West on the ladder, so if they defeat Mildura Settlers today and West lose, it is curtains for the boys from John Hall Oval.

But flip those results and they march through the door, needing only to defeat struggling Nichols Point in the last round to secure a finals berth.

It makes for a fascinating contest against Workers Gol Gol, who also need to win today if they are to maintain their grip on top spot.

Mildura West produced an excellent all-rounder performance to keep their season alive last weekend, defeating Coomealla-Wentworth in a hard fought contest.

What would have most pleased captain Davison Mbindi was the contributions from almost his entire batting order to post an imposing score of 176 against the highly regarded Coomealla-Wentworth attack.

When star opener Chris Williams went relatively early, his batting line-up stood tall under pressure, with Joseph Paul especially impressive with 41 in the middle order.

They will need to be every bit as good today against Workers Gol Gol, who have the hitting ability to chase down any score.

The depth of their batting order is the key, with many capable of carrying an innings on their day. Skipper Adam Thomson delivered last Saturday with 83 not out, while West Indian import Shac Thomas has been a model of consistency.

Mildura East v Nichols Point

MILDURA East will look to potentially leapfrog Nichols Point on the ladder with a win today. East are a game and a small amount of percentage behind the sixth-placed Pointers on the ladder, adding some extra spice to this clash that has no bearing on finals.

Nichols Point started the season with three straight wins, but have won just two matches since, so East will be confident of getting the job done at home.

Veteran Tom Vadlja is enjoying another stellar season, particularly with the bat, and enters this clash on the back of an unbeaten 123 against Merbein South last weekend.

Nichols Point will be desperate to end the season on a positive note with a couple of wins.

Irymple v Merbein South

IRYMPLE should have few issues in overcoming bottom side Merbein South at Henshilwood Oval. The second-placed Swallows can still grab the all-important top spot should Workers Gol Gol slip up in the run home, ensuring they don’t take this one too lightly.

Their bowling attack is the best in the competition, and while the Saints made over 200 last week, there is every chance Irymple could keep them under 100 today.

The pace of Chase Stone, the accuracy and swing of Mark Thomson and the choking left-arm spin of Daniel Coghlan, combined with the wicket-taking abilities of Dean Fairlie and Bailey Anderson, give no batting line-up any respite throughout the entire 40 overs. They should win this won easily.
