BOWLS Sunraysia District ladies pairs were played at Euston Bowls Club on March 17.
In round 1, Workers had the bye.
Lois Smyth and Cecilia Ferdelja (Mildura) defeated Neeva Cooke and Coralie Lever (Coomealla), Bernadette Stone and Raelene Winslow (Underbool) downed Dinky Nichols and Helen Robertson (Euston), Jackie Franklin and Julie Lowerson (Irymple) got by Barbara Banyard and Sue Nichols (Wentworth) and Sue Kelly and Ning Pitcher (Ouyen) were too good for Annette Smith and Irene Case (Red Cliffs).
In the second round, the Workers team of Dawn Jackson and Dianne Smith defeated Underbool, while Ouyen won over Irymple.
On the Sunday, March 18, Workers defeated Mildura. The final will be played between Ouyen and Workers at a date to be confirmed.
The men’s pairs were played at the Irymple Bowls Club on Saturday.
In round 1, Mark Eckel and Marty Connors (Mildura) defeated Jamie Forte and Darren Kerslake (Workers) 16/12, and Steve Simmonds and Col Lockett (Underbool) scraped past Braiden and Brian Tyers (Coomealla) 16/15 on the 19th end.
In the second round, G. Hahnel and R. Anderson (Ouyen) handled Tony Scott and (sub) Jack Mumford (Euston) 28/17, Frans Williams and Chris Scott (Irymple) beat Dave Goldup and P. Christensen (Nangiloc) 24/13, Maurie Press and Fred Giugno (Red Cliffs) went through on a forfeit from Merbein and Mildura battled past Underbool 15/13.
In the semi-finals, Irymple defeated Ouyen 19/17 and Mildura beat Red Cliffs 20/13.
Eckel and Connors went on to win the final over Williams and Scott, 18/16.
WENTWORTH
ON Wednesday, March 24, the club welcomed a visitor from Dubbo, Geoff Williams. It was also great to see Marilyn Rix back bowling.
The winners on the day were Ann Dawes, Geoff Williams and John Grahame (s).
Anyone is welcome to join for social bowls on Wednesdays and Saturdays. In spring and summer time play starts at 9.30am. In winter play begins at 1pm.

MILDURA
TUESDAY, March 23, was the chook pairs and Peter Issanchon and Frank Dart emerged victorious over Mel Southee and Alan Jones.
Saturday’s Jim Bunney Star Day saw a number of local clubs competing for the Jim Bunney Cup and excellent prizemoney.
Winners were Russell Kneebone (s), Wally Grembecki, Judy Morris and Jan Talbot. Runners-up were Mel Southee (s), Bill Campbell, Corey Bettis and Rod Johnstone. Lucky draw winners were David Sammut, Keith Munroe, Ron Dunn and Jill Duncan.
Sunday saw the club minor singles played between Russell Kneebone and Wally Grembecki, with the win going to Russell 21-16.
MERBEIN
MERBEIN went to Sea Lake on Saturday to play for the ‘Holy Grail’ and came home with a 77-56 win. Thanks to Sea Lake for a wonderful day, the meal was the best we had.
Next year they will come to us and try to take the ‘Holy Grail’ home.
Monday’s barefoot bowls was excellent, with the Easter Bunny in attendance handing out eggs.
Winners were Kevin, Ray and Aimee, with Geoff, Narelle and John runners-up.
Wednesday social was great, but our group had to go early so next week we are starting at noon to finish at 4pm. Be here at 11.30am
