Strong field for Open

IT’S the same old story, however Greg Rhodes looms as the man to catch in this weekend’s Jayco Mildura Golf Resort Open.

The 36-hole Open begins today with close to 200 golfers set to tee off across the weekend.

Rhodes won the 2020 Mildura Open in dramatic fashion in November, after it had been postponed due to COVID.

Rhodes and Cameron Stewart were tied after two rounds, foricing a play-off which saw the former win by just one stroke, -4 to -3.

Stewart and Ashley Whitehouse will be right in the mix for the men’s title as well.

Around 30 ladies will also take part, with the ever-present Sue Laird the hot favourite to win another title.

Mildura Golf Resort captain, Rick Foster, said it is a very strong field taking to the course.

“We have six golfers playing off scratch or better, so it is a very strong field,” he said.

“The course is in magnificent condition. The greens look really good and they’re running true.

“If it goes anything like last year’s Open, it could be an awesome final round.

“The seeded draw will take place on Sunday afternoon for the leaders in each grade so if anyone wants to watch some high quality golf, they are welcome to come down.”
