EUSTON Bowls Club champion Glenn Scott took complete control of the Region State Singles final on Monday with a convincing win over the highly rated Josh Thornton from the Murray Valley playing area.
Scott dominated from the get go to record a 25 to 11 win.
This followed a tough day at the office on Sunday when Scott faced off against Brody Harker in the final of the Champion of Champion Singles.
Scott played an immaculate conversion shot to hold four shots and the crown.
Harker replied with one of the finest recovery shots to keep himself alive in the game and to level the score at 21 to 21.
Scott resurrected the score board and collected three shots to lead 24 to 21.
The stage was set for a whirlwind finish. Scott attempted to trail the jack and take the match.
But Harker was steady on the draw, holding three shots all within 50 centimetre of the jack.
Scott attempted to reduce the count and fell agonizingly short as Harker stepped up and drew the sealer to collect four shots and the title of Champion of Champions.
Harker is a former Mildura Club member and at 25, has the unique record of winning each of the four Playing Area Champion of Champions singles titles across the Murray Mallee Bowls Region.
Both Harker and Scott will progress to the State Titles to be contested in Bendigo in early April.
The women’s section of the singles events saw Mildura’s Judy Osborne go down in the Champion of Champions event to Roma Opie 25 to 12.
The score line did not indicate the high standard of bowls played by both contestants in very blustery conditions.
The State Singles crown went to Alannah Taylor from the Racecourse Bowls Club in Swan Hill as she defeated Janet Vallance from Ouyen in the final 25 -12.
Mildura’s Isaiah Bettess skipped Dale Presley-Barwick and dad Core, to a convincing win in the final of the State Triples.
The Sunraysia trio defeated Murray Valley’s Norm Smith 20 to 10 in an excellent final of quality draw shot bowls.
Next door the Ouyen trio of Janet Vallance at skip, Sue Kelly and Karen Crook took full toll over the Northern Districts trio recording an equally as impressive 19 to 9 win.
Both triples teams will head to Bendigo as well
The Sunraysia Bowls District’s Pairs in the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed did not progress past the semi-final stage of the competition.
Matt West and Glenn Scott lost 7 to 17 to Northern Districts while Dinky Nichols and Tracie Storer lost to Murray Valley 5 to 22.
The Mixed pairs saw Ken Capper and Roz Muir go down 13 to 14 in the semi-final.
The Over 60 Mixed Fours saw Irymple’s Graham Lynch, Gus Storer, Lorraine Millward and Julie Lowerson collect a gold medal with a narrow 9 to 6 win over Northern Districts.
The local Women’s Fours team from Ouyen of Janet Vallance, Sue Kelly, Barb Hahnel and Ning Pitcher lost a hard fought final to Murray Valley 12 to 16.
The Men’s Four of Chris Mitchell, Ron O’Neil, Ken Capper and Rob Hanns lost their semi-final to Murray Valley 7 to 16.
In the 60 and Over events the Men’s Pairs duo of Chris Mitchell and Ron O’Neil collected a Gold Medal with a 10 to 8 win over Northern Districts. Mitchell also finished runner-up in the Men’s 60 and Over Singles going down 14 to21 to Norm Smith from Murray valley.
The Ladies 60 and Over Singles saw Mildura’s Judy Osborne collect the gold medal with a solid 21-15 win over Jean Fairchild from Northern Districts.
The Red Cliffs pair of Marg Dominelli and Roz Muir lost 10 to 13 in a ripping final of the Ladies 60 and Over Pairs.
