Friday

Darling-Baarka River Convoy launch

Menindee Lakes – 3pm

An array of boats, including a homemade, solar-powered Egyptian felucca, will launch into the weir pool at Menindee today, before spending the next few weeks travelling down the river to raise awareness of low flows and environmental damage in the Darling-Barka. The convoy will then finish at the Murray-Darling confluence in Wentworth on May 1.

2021 Northern Mallee Leaders Program Launch

Mildura Arts Centre – 6pm-9.30pm

JOIN Northern Mallee Leaders participants and alumni as they commence this year’s leadership journey. The event will feature keynote speaker Carly Findlay OAM, a writer, speaker and disability advocate, who will share her leadership journey and discuss the importance of an accessible and inclusive society. There will also be live entertainment from Tiny Feet Duo. Tickets are available from Mildura Arts Centre.

Mildura RC April Club Day

Mildura RC Car Club, Aero Ovals – 6pm-10pm

MILDURA’S own remote control car club are kicking into gear with the April edition of their 2021 Club Series, with a range of 1/10th scale electric buggies and trucks taking to the track. There will be open practice and qualifying rounds to start off, before finals later in the evening. Anyone keen to try RC racing is welcome to head along – the club can even organise a loan car for newcomers if needed.

Roving Performers

Mildura City Heart – 6pm-late

PEOPLE out and about in Mildura this weekend should keep their eyes and ears peeled for some local musicians. A range of bands and performers will be scattered throughout the city centre and the riverfront precinct from daytime until late every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Sunraysia Farmers Market

Jaycee Park – 8am-noon

HELD on the banks of the picturesque Murray River, the farmers’ market offers a bounty of produce from local growers and makers, with everything from fresh veg to dried fruit and baked goods. The big farmers’ breakfast spread with freshly squeezed juice is always a hit.

Mildura Weir parkrun

Opposite Rio Vista Park – 8am-10am

PARKRUN is on every Saturday morning and is open to anyone. The timed 5km course suits most skill levels and all participants are welcome to grab a coffee afterwards. Parkrun is free, but please register online at parkrun.com.au/milduraweir.

April Game Night

Mildura Church of Christ – 4pm-9.30pm

SUNRAYSIA Tabletop Gamers are holding a games night this weekend. People are encouraged to bring along their favourite games to play. Cost is $5 cash per person and snacks will be available. Under-18s must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

ARB Desert Dash

Pooncarie Racecourse and Pooncarie Hotel – noon-5pm

More than 80 cars will roar into Pooncarie to compete in the ARB Desert Dash in Pooncarie this weekend, completing a new 100km circuit along the picturesque Darling River. Sunraysia Motorsports Club members organised the event and built new sections of track to support the small town after years of drought. This will be the first motorsport event to be held in the town since 2009. Entry is by gold coin donation, with proceeds going to Pooncarie community groups.

An Improbable Collection premiere and Q&A

Mildura Arts Centre – 7.30pm-8.45pm

Join the Mildura Arts Centre team for the premiere screening of this half-hour documentary film. An Improbable Collection, by renowned film director Bruce Beresford and photographer Cordelia Beresford, was inspired by the Mildura Arts Centre collection, which features the works of Sir William Orpen and Sir Frank Brangwyn. The premiere screening will be followed by an in conversation event with Bruce Beresford and MAC’s Arts and Culture Development Manager Antonette Zema. Tickets are available through the Mildura Arts Centre website, with proceeds to support MAC’s conservation work.
