New Robinvale Euston cricket club starts at the pub

LIKE most good ideas, the formation of Robinvale and Euston’s newest cricket club came about over a few beers at the pub.

Local Thomas Lister moved to Euston seven years ago, and says to his knowledge, there hasn’t been a senior cricket team during that time.

Having previously played for Swan Hill, he was keen to get a team off the ground — and the Robinvale Euston Rangers was created.

“There was always a bit of pub talk about how blokes were missing playing cricket and how good it would be to have our own team again,” he said.

“It’s only been in the past few weeks that a Facebook group was made, a meeting was held earlier this week and actual plans to do it were set in stone.”

The Rangers will have a B Grade team in the Red Cliffs Cricket Association for the 2021-22 season, and Lister says it’s generated “a fair bit of buzz” among locals.

“We’re absolutely happy with the numbers we have so far,” he said. “It’s been great to have that support behind the idea.

“The last senior team we had in town were the Rangers, so we decided to keep the name, it has a bit of nostalgia attached to it.

“I’ve played cricket my whole life, and then when I moved here the only teams you could play for you had to travel for, so it’s great to have something new happening locally.”

Anyone interested in getting involved in the Rangers should call Thomas Lister on 0458 568 718.
