NetSetGO leaps back into action at Imps

NETSETGOERS are in full force this year at the Imperials netball club.

Senior player and NetSetGO organiser Jane Roberts said the club was “rapt” to have so many youngsters on the court, learning the essentials.

“We’ve got around 35 girls in the five to eight age group, which is really high compared to previous years … numbers are exceptional.”

However, Roberts said the club was not worried about junior netball numbers coming out of COVID-19.

“We were just going to run it … no matter how many kids we got to sign up,” she said.

But the participation goals were certainly exceeded this year.

“Last time we only had about 10 kids in the program,” Roberts said.

“A lot of the kids are affiliated with the club and we also have a high number of kids who aren’t … kids are being brought in through friendship groups, which is really great to see.”

And the atmosphere’s been “excellent” down at the courts.

“It’s been a really lovely feeling, there have been so many people around and so many families,” Roberts said.

“Everyone’s sticking around for a sausage sizzle after training and getting to know each other.

“I have two daughters in the program and they count down the sleeps until Wednesday afternoon.”

Roberts said the club was blown away by the amount of children who had registered.

“Hopefully we can keep this cohort of girls and bring them up through the ranks,” she said.

“It’s really great we’re able to offer something tailored like this to get girls involved in the sport.”
