Truck servo planned for Seventeenth Street, Mildura

PLANS have been unveiled for a new truckie service station on the outskirts of Mildura.

Costing “north of $3 million”, the company behind the project, Aksara, said this week the proposed servo – located at 637 Seventeenth Street – would be designed with “truckies’ comfort and convenience” in mind.

“There’ll be a restaurant in a service centre with a dedicated truckie lounge, where the drivers can have a shower, rest and feed,” Aksara spokesman Chris Cornelius said.

“From there they’ll be able to see back to where their trucks are parked to make sure they are safe and secure.”

Aksara, which builds service stations and leases them to petroleum companies, is proposing to have four pumps at the front of the service station for motor vehicles and two at the side for trucks.

“The plan for the site is to support trucks going down Seventeenth Street, where there’s a new Mildura bypass to improve safety,” Mr Cornelius said.

“We believe there’s a need for a facility to accommodate those vehicles outside the CBD.

“This is just vacant land at the moment, so we’re proposing to activate the site.

“There’ll be a lot of local economic spin-offs out of this. We think it will create up to 30 jobs over the next decade as well as work for local subcontractors during the construction phase.”
