City thump Pointers in S-League

MILDURA City Soccer Club’s men’s team ran riot over Nichols Point at the weekend with a whopping 7-1 victory.

In somewhat understated fashion City’s coach, Simon Trembath, said he was pleased with win following a 3-1 success over Irymple in round 1.

“We felt really confident in the work we did in preseason and it’s really good to start the season with a couple of wins on the board,” he said.

Trembath said the side was known for its attacking brand of football, and that’s one of the reasons it had hit the park running this season.

“It’s something we pride ourselves on,” he said.

“We scored goals from several different areas on the field but it also feels fantastic to only have conceded two goals over the first two games.”

The coach said the players were really coming into their own this year, with Domenic Ghidinelli called out as a “sensational” utility player.

Trembath said while there was “still some work to be done”, the standard and fitness of the side was approaching 100 per cent.

“I have no doubt the quality of competition is going to continue to improve from week to week, from this point on and so do we.”

City have also joined the #shooshforkids movement this season.

The initiative promotes healthy grassroots sporting environments for young people and, in supporting the movement, City are taking a stand against anti-social behaviour around the club, including the abuse of officials.S-LEAGUE ROUND 2 RESULTS
