SENIOR experience will come in handy for Sunraysia’s 17 and Under netball interleague side.
A number of young guns on the court who will wear the green and gold have already spent plenty of time with their respective A Grade teams. The likes of Mildura trio Ella Higgins, Alex Leng and Ava Zadow, and Red Cliffs’ Jazmin Parker, have played the majority of the season in the top flight.
Kate Euvrard (Mildura), Chloe O’Brien (Ouyen United), Milliw Kuhne (Imperials), Morna Naguto (South Mildura) and Ruby McInerny (Wentworth) round out a talented young squad who will face North Central in Sea Lake today.
Coach Ange McDonald said she was blessed by large numbers of girls putting their hand up for selection.
“I’ve had 27 girls trying out for interleague which we don’t normally get, so it’s been fantastic to have a fair field of players to chose from,” she said.
“Some girls have been part of Sunraysia academy training but we’ve also got some others from outside of that as well. It’s great to have some representation from Red Cliffs and Ouyen United too.
“We feel it’s a squad that complements each other really well and there is a lot of experience there within such a young side.
“Having a few girls who have some of that A Grade experience is fantastic, and it will definitely come in handy, while it’s also nice to see a few new faces getting an opportunity to play on a representative stage.”
While McDonald said they don’t know a lot about their opposition, just getting the chance to play representative netball again is huge for the region’s youngsters.
“We don’t know a huge amount about North Central but we’re under the impression that it will be a really good, strong game,” she said.
“Coming out of last year when there was no netball, the girls have worked really hard on the training aspect of their game and have stepped up really well.”
Madelaine Couch will also represent the SFNL as an umpire.
The match begins at 11am.
