RIVERSIDE

DUE to lockdown restrictions, the past week has been pretty light on when it comes to competitions.

Last Monday was a winning day for John Fraser, coming in with a fine 37 points. Ned Klemm had to undergo a countback against Rob Arnold before claiming runner-up, when both ended n 36.

The only NTP came from Rob Arnold (seventh, 390).

The rain was welcomed on Tuesday, but put a halt to the ladies’ comp.

Wednesday saw a good field of men contesting the monthly medal. The overall best score came from Barry Pilgram (83/72), who picked up the medal, but not before he battled out a countback with Dean Vance, on the same stroke and net score and Anthony Harmes (85/72).

Neither left empty handed though, Dean collected the win in A Grade and Anthony grabbed second.

Michael Burton had the best round in B Grade, with 106 off the stick giving him a 73 net. Runner-up went to Neil Lawlor, just one behind (98/74).

NTPs were: France Wilmann (fourth, 620), Simon Dale (seventh, 150), Jason Marks (12th, 320) and Grant Giddings (17th, 281).

Roz Nash played a super game on Thursday in the ladies’ monthly medal with an excellent (93/70), over runner-up Lorraine Palmer (92/73).

Always very consistent, Lorraine also took out the putting comp with a lovely 27.

NTPs were: Jen Leach (fourth, 950), Selma Mayne (seventh, 895), Rankin (12th, 226) and Kath Eddie (18th, 168).

We will all being hoping life gets back to normal for the coming week.

VETERANS

THE likelihood that Monday’s district veteran golf event will go ahead is dependent of when the current COVID-19 lockdown ends.

At the time of writing, that was not looking too good. We will keep our fingers crossed that the outbreak has been contained.

If all is well, and the event goes ahead, then we will all meet at the Riverside Golf Club for registration from 8.30am. At 9am, John will then share any local rules and let us know whether there will special COVID-19 requirements, such as having to wear a mask.

Whatever happens, be certain that we will receive a warm welcome. The course is in excellent condition especially given that no one has played on it for a week. We are expecting a special guest John Robertson, the VVGA secretary, but that might depend on travel restrictions.

Let’s get out there and enjoy a game if we can. I hope to see you there.

We will endeavour to share any updates as soon as possible and they will be communicated to your club representative – or you can give one of the executive members a call.

The event will be a single Stableford game with the usual NTP and A and B grade competitions. Remember that to qualify for our championship round in August players must have played in two previous rounds. If you have not had the chance to play this year, it’s a must to make the next two rounds.

WENTWORTH

THERE were a few good scores at the Thursday Stableford last week with Garry Bourke winning with 40 points.

Runner-up went to “no name who wasn’t there” with 38 points.

NTP was Bill Murray (17th, 260). Mr Risky was Glen Walker (26 on countback).

At Sunday’s stroke, visitor John Horking showed potential with 69 net to scrape home first over runner-up Glen Walker (70).

NTP was Josh Lowry (17th, 270). Mr Risky went to Max (Cadel Evans) Hodges with 90.
