Funding boost for female sportspeople

FOOTBALL Federation Sunraysia (FFS) is among a number of organisations to receive funding to help level the playing field for women and girls through the State Government’s Change Our Game initiative.

The organisation will receive $5000 to initiate a female leadership network under the guidance and training of Football Victoria. The project aims to develop a connected group of strong female role models, as well as provide subsidised community coaching and referee accreditation for local females to support their off-field journeys.

FFS is among 86 organisations from across Victoria that will share in more than $430,000 worth of grants.

Applications from the round of funding broke Change Our Game records with more than $1.1 million worth of submissions registered, reinforcing the demand in providing programs that celebrate and showcase women and girls in all levels of sport and recreation.

“Congratulations to Football Federation of Sunraysia Inc on their successful application,” Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said.

“This is a fantastic project that aims to provide sports leadership and development opportunities for local women.”

Since 2017, more than 380 Change Our Game grants have been awarded and this work will continue following the recent 2021-22 Victorian State Budget announcement of $11.6 million to fund the continuation of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation.
