NEW proposed boundaries for the Mildura state electorate would expand the region to take in Buloke Shire.
Under Electoral Boundaries Commission proposal, towns including Donald, Charlton, Massey, Wooroonook, Dooboobetic and Rich Avon would no longer sit in the Ripon district.
Any changes to the boundaries will apply at the next Victorian election.
Member for Mildura Ali Cupper said bringing all of Buloke Shire into the one electorate would help with advocacy.
“What’s exciting about this proposal is that my team won’t have to surrender any towns when the boundaries shift,” Ms Cupper said.
“The electorate will grow by 1827 square kilometres, giving me the opportunity to represent another 2500 people,” she said.
“I can also continue representing people in sections of Yarriambiack Shire and Swan Hill Rural City Council, as well as the entirety of Mildura Rural City.”
The electorate’s name is not slated to change.
“Regardless of whether the boundaries shift or not, what is important is that everyone in my zone feels represented,” Ms Cupper said.
“Even though the name says Member for Mildura, I value the wants and needs of each community.
“Through hard work and results my aim is to continue to show that across the electorate, I’m the member for everyone.”
The public can provide feedback on the proposed boundaries until 5pm on July 30.
