Mildura testing close to capacity, says SCHS

CORONAVIRUS testing sites in Mildura were operating on extended hours on Tuesday but organisers were expecting to reach capacity by early afternoon.

The Old Aerodrome Ovals testing site, run by Sunraysia Community Health Services (SCHS), was still operating at 12.30pm on Tuesday but organisers expected it would hit capacity by 2pm.

“People can expect a three or four-hour wait for testing,” a SCHS spokesperson said.

Opening hours at both sites have been extended to 5pm, but in order to process hundreds of people waiting for a test, the sites would have to close to new traffic by early afternoon, the spokesperson said.

Traffic through Mildura was moving more smoothly today as testing processes at both sites were updated.

Anyone who has been to a tier 1 or tier 2 exposure site is now directed to Old Aerodrome Ovals.

Anyone who is symptomatic or has concerns they may have been exposed to the virus should queue at gate D at Mildura Recreation Reserve.

An SCHS spokesperson said the biggest message for the day was for people to stay home and isolate.

“The biggest preventative for COVID is isolation,” the spokesperson said.

“Even if you have concerns, if you’re isolating, you are being proactive in getting in front of this,” she said.

“Even if you get tested three or four days down the track, if you are isolating, you are making a difference.”

People should check council signs at testing sites and the SCHS Facebook page for the latest updates.
