Tips for staying active during lockdown

DURING the COVID-19 lockdown in Mildura, it’s a tricky time to get exercise in with gyms being closed.

What then can you do to keep yourself moving during this time?

Unless you are lucky and have a home gym set up it will be very difficult to get your weight training in.

Sunraysia Daily talked with Daniel Coghlan, of 141 Fitness, for some tips on staying active in lockdown.

1. Use as much of the time you can outside

Whetherf it’s walking, running, or doing a high-intensity circuit training-style circuit. It’s winter, and might not always be perfect weather, but your mental health will thank you for it.

2. Get a friend to help

Challenge each other.

Whether it’s how many steps you’ve done for the day, maybe how far you were able to run without stopping, or writing a workout for each other that you can complete from home. We all need people we can lean on right now.

3. Get the family involved

Obviously it’s not for everyone, but if you have kids or partner, get them involved.

Make it fun. It may not be perfect exercise, but before you know it you have done 45 minutes and had a good laugh, which also helps.

4. Message a trainer

Ask for help if you’re stuck and don’t know what to do, reach out to a trainer.

Most right now don’t have a full schedule. Make the most of this time and you could learn something new.

It’s understandably a very tough and disheartening time. But the more we can help each other out and support each other, the better off everyone will be.
