MILDURA
GOLF is steadily getting back to normal, as golfers enjoy the exercise and cope with the restrictions on social distance guidelines.
Last Wednesday, the Mildura men played single Stableford in two grades. Josh Mcaskill won A Grade with 36 points, from Michael Sette (34) and Kelly Simon (33).
Terry Buckingham won B Grade after a three-way countback on 36 points, with Frank Poole second and Graham Robertson third.
NTPs were: Ferdi Bergamin (first, 64), Geoff Crozier (second, 169), Peter Dooley (10th, 410, which also won the pig prize) and Ron Rowse (12th, 170).
The competition on Saturday was single Stableford in three grades.
Peter Miatke (40) won A Grade after a countback. Mcaskill continued his good form to take second and Paul Leonard (39) was third.
Scores were also good in B Grade, where Trevor Spanos (39) won ahead of Alan Lay and Kelly Simon (both 37).
In C Grade, Paul Cocks (40) was a comfortable victor ahead of Lay (37) and Peter Cottrell (36).
NTPs were: Rob Toms (first, 201), Lachlan Cottrell (second, 318, which also won the pig prize), Greg Toma (10th, 95) and Joe Rocca (12th, 206).

WEDNESDAY’S men’s A Grade winner was Alan Scorer on 37 points from Ross Robertson and Craig Tung on 35.
Rodney Hand won B Grade with 39 points from Michael James (36) and Robert Armstrong (34).
NTPs were: Alan Scorer (third, 272), Aaron Blake (seventh, 115), Ivan McKenzie (11th, 251) and Jacob Slimmon (18th, 195).
Lee Bottomley won the ladies’ competition with 36 points on countback from Jennifer Smith.
NTPs were: Jenny Smith (third, 33, and 11th, 17) and Kaylene Geddes (18th, 13).
Friday’s medley 12-hole Stableford was won by Ivan McKenzie on 24 points from Terry Albion (23).
NTPs were: Alan Scorer (seventh, 363) and Greg Rhodes (11th, 520).
In Saturday’s men’s competition, Craig Gursansky took A Grade honours with +3 from Robert Pallot and David McDonnell, each on +2.
Greg Murphy won B Grade (+4) from Sean Bromley and Dennis Wright (both +2).
NTPs were: Carlo Longeri (third, 180), Justin McPhee (seventh, 118), Fai Hudson (11th, 253) and Anthony Mills (18th, 140).
Helen Barnes won the ladies’ competition with -1 from Maureen Bailey (-2).
NTPs were: Kaylene Geddes (third, 56), Barnes (seventh, 380), Bailey (11th, 31) and Janice Walker (18th, 62).
Sunday’s medley Stableford was won by Greg Rhodes (39) from Matthew Briggs (38).
NTPs were: Russell James (third, 1340), Rhodes (seventh, 720), Tim Vandenberg (11th, 834) and Darren Bottomley (18th, 195).

MERBEIN
TOUGH scoring at the Royal for Wednesday’s Stableford event with the win going to Frank Crouch with 30 points via countback over Terry Fitzpatrick.
Frank won both NTPs (third, 30, and 16th, 780).
Saturday was a different story in 4BBB Stableford with the win going to the pairing of Allan Gourlay and Ethan Gray (45 points) over Fox Mulder and Graeme Dunne (43).
NTPs were: Andrew Fairlie (second, 125, sixth, 550, and 12th, 750), Roger Walder (third, 172), Graeme Dunne (eighth, 302), Shane Trinick (14th, 130), Crouch (16th, 780) and Craig Hocking (18th, 439).
“The Heineken” NTP, which goes to the third hole this week, belongs to John Bell who thought he had NTP and Pigeon but in actual fact didn’t come within two meters of the actual winner!

RED CLIFFS
LADIES and men played Stableford last Wednesday. The ladies’ comp in A Grade went to Sally Jones (35) from Julianne Wood (32). The B Grade winner, on countback, was Deirdre Merlin (31) from Margaret Storer.
NTPs were: Liz Leach (third), Dee Hopkins (eighth), Jones (12th), Jill Gleeson (15th) and Joan Ryan (17th).
In the men’s competition, Graeme Duffy (35) was the winner from Peter Knight (31).
NTPs were: Geoff Smith (eighth) and Peter Lynch (18th).
Saturday’s game was stroke and monthly medal for men and ladies and also the first round of club championships for the men.
The men’s medal winners in A Grade was Daryl Morgan (69) from Gary Nunn (70). B Grade went to Peter Lynch (71) on countback from Bob Merlin. C Grade was claimed by Mark Collett (72) from Ron Baird.
NTPs were: Morgan (fifth and 17th), Chris Chase (eighth), Ian Doering (ninth) and Mark Wilson (12th).
Highlight of the day was Andrew Bateman’s eagle on the par-four fourth.
Ladies’ A Grade medal winner was Kay Hart (71) just ahead of Marie Kanyua (72). B Grade went to Heather Shaw (68) from Sandra Marwood (71), on a countback from Glenys Murray. Bobbie Ramsay won the putting with 26 putts.
NTPs were: Helen Wood (third), Julianne Wood (eighth), Jill Gleeson (12th and 15th) and Marwood (17th).
Sunday was the second round of the men’s club championships. The A Grade daily winner was Ben Hogan (68) from Daryl Morgan (71).
In B Grade, Andrew Bateman (71) was the winner from Jason Plant (73). C Grade went to Collett (72) from Doering (78) on a countback.
Leaders in the Club Championships after two rounds are:
A Grade: Morgan (70- 71-141) from Hogan (79-69-148).
B Grade: Bateman (97- 91-188) from Lynch (92-97-189) closely followed by Jamie Wood on 190.
C Grade: Collett (97- 96-193) from Plant (102-95-197).

RIVERSIDE
HERE we are again, back on the fairways, with a lot of happy golfers.
With the restrictions being loosened on Tuesday night, Wednesday was the first comp for the week.
The men played Stableford in two grades. Warrick Fisher opened the week with fine score of 39 to win A Grade over John Fraser (37).
It was B Grade that was shining, after two players came in on a magic 42 points. Michael Englefield used all of his luck to bring home the win from Keith Willis.
Our curator, Tim Peterson smashed out an amazing eagle on the par-four 16th.
NTPs were: Kevin Eastwood (fourth, 296), John Fraser (12th, 510), Greg King (17th, 280) and Keith Willis (18th, 365).
Thursday was stroke, monthly medal and putting for the ladies. A Grade went the way of Heather Klemm (95/76), followed by Linda Dickson (102/78) after a countback from Lisa Garioch (87/78).
A countback was needed again in B Grade, with the win going to Dot Knight, on a beautiful (97/71), from Jan Lloyd, with another lovely score (102/71).
The medal was awarded to Dot, on a countback from Jan.
Klemm put together a smooth round of putting (26) to collect the trophy.
NTPs were: Selma Mayne (fourth, 478), Jen Stephenson (seventh, 990), Chitra Rankin (12th, 36) and Kathy Ridley (18th, 27).
Friday’s nine-hole medley Stableford was taken out by Shane Johnson (20) over John Fraser (19).
On Saturday, the ladies played for the Monthly Award and Selma Mayne had a terrific score of (99/71) to win. Jan Lloyd has been in the winners circle more than often of late but this time was runner-up (104/74).
NTPs were: Janet Luke (fourth, 805), Lisa Garioch (seventh, 880, and 12th, 98) and Janet Luke (18th, 85m).
Monthly Medal was also the comp for the men on Saturday, with a super field of 107.
The A Grade medal was won by Paul Wilkinson with an excellent 80/71, from Craig Jervies (80/73), after a countback against Dom Glenister and Ian Dickason.
Andrew Diwell took out the B Grade medal on a mighty 81/70 over Gary Sharman (87/71).
It was Nick Goodieson in C Grade to leave on top with his impressive 93/71). John Wass just one behind (90/72).
The Medal in D Grade went the way of Melville Cooke (103/73) from Brad Morrison (104/74).
NTPs were: Anthony Lee (fourth, 205), Greg King (seventh, 801), Frank Taterell (12th, 300), Graeme Southwell (17th, 138) and Gary Sharman (18th, 142).
Sunday’s daily comp was a nine-hole medley Stableford and saw Jim Callaway (19) winning after a countback against Nic Cairns.
NTPs were: Jon Slatter (fourth, 600) and Paul Danenberg (sevemth, 250).
The men also played off for the handicap match play championships on Sunday.
Using the “Super 6” format, the quarter, semi and Cup finals were all played on the one day.
The winners were:
A Grade (Watson Cup) – Jarrad Stokker, on the second playoff hole, from Chris O’Brien.
B Grade (Henshilwood Cup) – Gary Sharman, from Alan Connolly (1 up).
C Grade (Hollick Cup) – Peter George, from Gary McNally (3 and 2)
D Grade (Holland Cup) – Kevin Eastwood, from Ricky Hayes (2 up).
Conrgatulations to all winners.
VETERANS
ON Monday, 39 players travelled to the Coomealla Golf Club to contest the district veteran golfers championship.
The stroke round is the annual event to determine an overall champion and A and B scratch and handicap winners.
The overall winner was Mark Woodhouse with a score of 81. In A Grade the scratch winner was Rob Toms with his score of 83 and John Williams was the handicap champion with his score of 73. It took a countback for John to secure his win.
In B Grade it was Terry Buckingham with his score of 94 who was the scratch winner, and our handicap winner was Alan Steedman (74).
NTPs were: Mark Woodhouse (seventh), Alan Steedman (11th) and Joe Rocca (18th). We did not have a winner on the third.
It is worth acknowledging a great game played by Greg Rhodes who scored 75 and had a net 77, but was not eligible as he had not played sufficient games throughout the year.
Our next game will be on Monday, September 6, when we travel to Robinvale to play single Stableford.
WENTWORTH
WEDNESDAY’S Stableford saw William Murray post 34 points to win from Bill Slee (31).
Mr Risky went to newby Peter Trevathan with 18.
Sunday stroke was brilliantly won by Thomas Clarke with 68 net. Runner-up Ally Thompson scored 71.
NTP was Howard Hankinson on the 17th, and while Howard’s par-three shots are good, he has been having a lot elsewhere to produce Mr Risky with 88 net.
