WE could be forgiven for thinking we are in a playground, not on the fairways. It’s feeling like we’re on a merry-go-round, or maybe a see-saw.
One minute we are up, the next we’re down. Well, let’s just enjoy getting out and doing the things we love, while you can.
Monday, July 2, saw Graeme Irvin come away with a win, notching up 35 points.
NTPs were: Greg King (seventh, 1900) and Michael Englefield (18th, 220).
The ladies played 18-hole and nine-hole stroke competitions on Tuesday. Lyn Saunders put her 94-75 to good use, winning the 18-hole event in front of runner-up Lyn Delmenico (109-77).
NTPs were: Rose Gilardi (fourth, 1750, and seventh, 1202) and Saunders (18th, 63).
The nine-hole event was claimed by Verna Wakefield (38).
Wednesday was men’s Stableford in two grades.
Gary Sharman came home with a fine round of 38 to be the winner of A Grade with a group of three chasing him.
Greg King (36) took second over Michael Holcroft and Bodan Bishop.
However, it was Brad Surgey, who put in the round of week, with an outstanding 42, collecting the B Grade win, four in front of Tom Wilkinson on a great 38.
Scott Connelly played the par-four 13th perfectly, leaving with an eagle.
NTPs were: Holcroft ( fourth, 335), Gary Sharman (seventh, 510), Andrew Forbes (12th, 705), Graham Sievewright (17th, 620) and Ash Robinson (18th, 95).
Ladies played Stableford in two grades on Thursday.
Jen Stephenson comfortably won A Grade with an excellent 38, four clear of runner-up Saunders.
There was another exceptional score in B Grade with Verna Wakefield (38) winning by two over Gaye Briggs, on countback from Sally Watson.
NTPs were: Wakefield (fourth, 239), Lisa Garioch (seventh, 367), Kathy Ridley (12th, 52) and Heather Klemm (18th, 54).
Fingers crossed we can put together a couple of months without having to pull up stumps again.
WENTWORTH
THURSDAYS Stableford had Bill Slee hanging on to score a win with 36. Charging late was Garry Bourke to just miss with 34.
NTP was: Slee (second, 200). Mr Risky went to newcomer Peter Trevathan (22). A few more than the previous week shows improvement.
Sunday’s stroke saw the red arrow, Col Stewart, return to form with a good 72. Runner-up was Joe Doidge (75).
NTP was: Ged Chapman (second, 305 – after striking the pin on the full). Mr Risky also went to Chapman with an out-of-character 92.
