Crunch clash for the Magpies

IT’S make or break for Merbein on Saturday as they aim to keep their SFNL A Grade netball finals push alive.

The Magpies are a game outside of the top four but come up against third-placed Imperials and fourth-placed Irymple in their final two contests.

While Merbein have not played since July 3, being the last team to face the bye before lockdowns, they had won three of their past four games to put themselves in position to sneak in.

They have their work cut out for them however as Imps coach Kym Mayne knows who to get her team firing before finals.

Much has been made about the inclusions of Maddie Alvino and Amy Dodds into their attack, but the form of home-grown talents Alle and Jess Littore, among others, has also been important in their push.

On equal points with defending champions Ouyen United, Imps are in with a chance of a top-two finish, although their final game is against undefeated Wentworth.

The Roos have barely missed a beat all year and with a dominant defence of Natalie Vercher, Courtney Wakefield and Christie Becker and with Amanda Edwards scoring for fun, they will look to get themselves in prime shape for their first premiership since 2016.

South Mildura will play their final game of the season before a last round bye.

Ouyen United have only lost two games for the season, both against Wentworth, and come up against Irymple.

Boasting a versatile side that is still awaiting the return of 2019 Horkings Medal winner Kyra Nathan, the Kangas will look to get on the hop.

The Swallows boast a young side that has been missing star shooter Steph O’Loughlin with injury, but they have been impressive.

An upset win would not only give them confidence before finals, but would also secure their top-four place.

Out at Quandong Park, it’s a battle of youth as Red Cliffs clash with Mildura.

The Tigers are still awaiting that first A Grade victory since 2014, however they have been able to blood some young talent in 2021.

The Demons have impressed many and will look to finish the season a high.

Robinvale Euston have the bye.
