Sunraysia district golf notes

RIVERSIDE

LISA Garioch and Suzy Conquest stood up to the test of a quality field to win the Riverside Golf Club Ladies 27-hole Foursomes Championships before the most recent lockdown came into effect.

The duo held a three-stroke lead after 18 holes from Chitra Rankin and Jenny Leach, eventually going on to win by five strokes after scoring 140, ahead of Janet Luke and Tracey Bryan on 145.

Lyn Delmenico and Jeannette Mason were the champions of the 27-hole B Grade (151), scooping the pool and finishing well ahead of Roylene Bailey and Jan Lloyd (164).

Roz Nash and Adel Dal Corobbo finished on top in A Grade handicap with 114.5 from the pairing of Luke and Bryan on 119, while Delmenico and Mason (100) and Bailey and Lloyd (116.5) finished top two in B Grade handicap as well.

VETERANS

AT the time of writing, there is only just a hint that the current lockdown might be lifted before next Monday.

That is the day we are due to travel to Robinvale to contest our next round, a Stableford event. If the lockdown ends, the event is a definite starter.

Given that we could well have more events postponed or cancelled, it would be great if we could get a really good number to make a real effort to attend.

By doing so we will support one of our local clubs that is under financial pressure while taking an opportunity to get out of our homes and into some fresh air. The exercise would be a welcome relief and won’t it be great to see and interact with our mates.

Obviously, travel requirements next week remain unclear so it would be wise to pre-plan for your trip. Give yourself time to complete the process of getting a travel permit or depart a half an hour earlier if you are going via the Calder Highway. Local wisdom is that it is an extra 40km if you don’t cross the border.

If the lockdown has not finished, we will negotiate a postponement. Watch this space if that eventuates.

Finally, it seems fully vaccinated people will gain privileges, so get those jabs to ensure you get to the chance to play. Until then, stay isolated and safe.
