VETERANS

WITH the current optimism around soon emerging from lockdown, district veteran golfers are looking forward to their next game. It will be held on the second Monday of the month and not the usual first due to the running of that other important November event, the Melbourne Cup.

Members will be heading to the Mildura Golf Resort to contest a single Stableford event on November 8. If competitions can’t be conducted then, the event will revert to a social occasion. If you need to hire a cart, give the pro shop a call.

Sticking to our normal routine, we’ll start registrations about 8.30am before being addressed by our retiring captain John Green. After learning about any local rules, we will head off to our tees for a shotgun start to allow lunch to be served. This year’s incentive scheme winners will be announced and the Annual General Meeting conducted.

Remember the association provides its members monthly opportunities to play at district courses for a nominal cost while allowing veteran golfers to enjoy a shared meal. We provide good prizes and support members with an incentive program. Membership costs are kept to a minimum. For this to happen we need our leadership group to be supported. Please consider taking a turn at one of the roles. New leaders will receive support in learning the ropes. Why not give it a go?

WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S comp saw Glen ‘The Phantom’ Walker return to the winners’ list (two Thursdays in a row), albeit on a countback from hard-hitting Ged Chapman.

NTP was: Bill Slee (17th, 505). Mr Risky went to the injured Garry Bourke (22).

Sunday’s stroke was a day to forget. Poor scores dominated with a countback seeing Bill Murray (76 net) win from Col Stewart.

NTP was: Howard Hankinson (17th, 500). Mr Risky went to Chapman who, like Samson, has lost his strength scoring 84 net.

Club Championships will take place on November 7 and 14.
