A SUNRAYSIA couple who were part of a group that breached border rules and snuck into South Australia have been jailed.
Tammy Bustard and Colby Higgins, both of Dareton, appeared before Berri Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday following their arrest a week ago.
Bustard, 31, and Higgins, 32, each pleaded guilty to one charge of failing to comply with a direction.
The couple were sentenced to three months, 18 days in jail.
The pair, along with Pauline Joy Briggs and Aaron Peterson, were pulled over by SA police on a dirt road near Loxton about 5.30pm on October 13.
At the time, SA police said Peterson admitted to having been in a restricted area and was arrested on the spot while Bustard, Higgins and Briggs were taken to an Adelaide medi-hotel while police investigated their movements before they were also arrested and charged with breaching the Emergency Management Act.
Peterson, who was driving the car, was sentenced to 18 days in jail and Briggs to three months, 18 days when they appeared before Adelaide Magistrates’ Court last week.
However, a magistrate determined that because Briggs was a grandparent to three, she would only have to serve one month before being put on a good behaviour bond for a year.
Bustard and Higgins have already served six days of their sentences on remand and will also be placed on a 12-month bond when released.
They were both ordered to pay $395 in costs.
