Slimmon, Bottomley grab MDGA titles

JACOB Slimmon and Lee Bottomley are the golf champions of Sunraysia.

The duo took out their respective divisions on Sunday in the Murray Darling Golf Association (MDGA) District Championships at Coomealla Golf Club.

Slimmon, who had rounds of 68 and 74, finished just one shot ahead of Cameron Stewart, who led after day one with a five-under par 67, before following up with a 76.

Slimmon held a two-stroke lead over Stewart coming into the final hole, and while the eventual champion scored a bogey, his rival scored par to grab the win.

Darryl Morgan (73 and 74) rounded out the podium with Greg Rhodes next in line with 72 and 75.

It always loomed as a race in two in the ladies competition with Bottomley ahead of pack after a first-round 76, and Michelle Philp just two strokes behind on 78.

Bottomley was able to extend her lead by another six shots on Sunday, recording a score of 81 to Philp’s 87 to be a runaway winner.
