WELL, what an amazing week of tennis we’ve experienced, but Mother Nature has been serving up some beauties as well. Australia Day finished with some pretty hairy fireworks of its own.
John Wass put a lovely round together last Monday in the Veteran and Friends Stableford, with his 39 points leaving him on top from France Wilmann on 38.
NTPs: 7th – Peter Ellery 18cm; 18th – Gary Sharman 150cm.
Maree Irvin put her mark on the ladies 18 hole comp on Tuesday, winning on a nice 38 points with her nearest rival Chitra Rankin on 32.
NTPs: 4th – Tracy Lee 945cm; 12th and 18th – Chitra Rankin 410cm and 19cm.
There was also a nine hole event and Meg Hamence was the winner there on 15 points, but not before a countback with Carol Benning.
NTP: 7th – Meg Hamence 320cm.
Wednesday was Australia Day and with that came the GBM Consulting Four Person Medley Ambrose with prizes galore.
First place went to the team of Paul White, David Loveridge, Dennis Williams and Andrew Stewart, with a sizzling 54.87 nett to go with their prize of a two-burner barbecue.
Second place went the way of Jacob Slimmon, Mark Alvey, Justin Clay and Glen Cumming on a very nice 56.12 nett. Terry Sparrow, Jason Milner, Rodney Sparrow and Michelle Pointon collected third, with a fine 57.12.
From fourth to sixth were James Taylor, Ray Cottle, Gary Van Steenis and Ian Tiley (57.5 nett); Simon Dale, Steven Wilmann, Allan McMaster and Aaron Jeffrey (57.75); and Kendall Marchment, Ned Klemm, Heather Klemm and Lorraine Palmer (58).

The ladies Thursday comp was cancelled, due to some holes being flooded by the Australia Day storm. Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford was won by Riley Auston with an absolute ripping round of 27 points, six ahead of his nearest rival Timothy Earl on 21.
Saturday was a medley Stableford Waltz, which was won by the team of Dallas Kalms, Malcolm Kalms, Chris Curley and Josh Fleming, on a magnificent 85 points, in front of Mark Luitjes, Adam Luitjes, Josh Lee and Andrew Graham on 82.
NTPs: 4th – Jeff Riordan and Robyn Rohrlach; 7th – Robyn Rohrlach; 12th – Shane Beckwith; 17th (2nd shot) – Graham Southwell; 18th – Ned Klemm.
Simon Bartsch had a great score in Sunday’s medley Stableford finishing with 39 points. Damian Southgate came out the better after a six-way count back for runner up. Those who just missed the cut were Wayne Innes, Matthew Hodge, Ryan Zepple, Heather Klemm and Peter Ellery, all on 36.

THE winner last Wednesday was Alan Gourlay with 34 points.
Saturday’s winner was Graham Kerr with +4, with Fox Mulder runner up on + 1.

Today is a Stableford and Saturday is Monthly Medal Stroke. The committee held a very productive meeting on Monday night.
From today, all Par 5 NTPs will be cancelled due to lack of sponsors, leaving four Par 3 NTP still in play.
Vice president Peter Shadwick is the “working bee coordinator” and as a result Sunday, February 13, will be our first open working bee, concentrating on spraying weeds so please look out for more news to help out. Peter is also managing our groundsman Gavin so any issues will need to be directed straight to Peter and not Gavin going forward. From March, every first Sunday will be a working bee concentrating on one particular item, ie. a tee, particular part of a hole or greens surround etc. Working bee to start at 9am and finish at midday followed by a barbecue and refreshments for all in attendance, this will be ongoing for the year.
The course is starting to really look good with the recent working bee that concentrated on the irrigation, many hands make light work and it was great to see a good crew out helping.
The clearing for the new clubrooms will be done this week, slab to be laid down by end of February so we are on the move. Look out for the new construction about to take shape, all committee members are very excited about the future for this great club.
RED CLIFFS
SATURDAY’S medley Stableford winner in A Grade was Gary Nunn on 42 points from Glenn Goodall on 36 on countback.
In B Grade, Bruce Mathieson on 35 points was the winner from Rohan Hillier on 34.
NTPs: 3rd – Neville Walker; 8th – Dee Hopkins and Paul Dominelli; 12th – Marion Pengelly and Ken Woosnam; 15th – Rohan Hillier; 17th – Shayne Dempsey; 18th – Daryl Morgan.
Wednesday was the Drummond Golf Sunraysia Golf Range Australia Day Texas Stableford. The winning team on 131 points were Terry Pain, Karen Bullman, Ian Doering and Noreen Smith.
Runners-up were Brendon Lanigan, Aaron Finch, Jason Finch and Craig Leon on 130, on a countback from the team of Glenn Goodall, Mick Morrall, Noel Douglass and Dwaine White. Fourth place went to Adrian Hensgen, Gary Clark, Ben Watson and Corey Parker on 129 points.
Coming up today is a medley Par and on Saturday, it’s medley Stableford and the sixth round of the summer cup.
MILDURA
LAST Tuesday, the ladies played an 18-hole stableford with Jan Mierswa chalking up a win with a fine 41 points, closely followed by Mabel Crouch on 40.
Following the traditional barbecue breakfast under the new sails last Wednesday, a shotgun start set the field off for the popular Klemms Newsagency four person Ambrose event with generous prizes available on the day.
The winning team consisted of Mark Pullman, Jeremy Pullman, Perry Hill and Jayden Burns with nett 52.75, then followed by Demetrious Zaxos, Sam Boake, Brett Beswick and Trent Smith on 55.37.
Picking up third prize were Jamie Lanyon, Simon Kelly, Billy Fishwick and Robert Leng on nett 56.
NTPs: 1st – Wayne Dalhmes and Emmalee Beggs; 2nd – Joe Rocca; 12th – Demetrious Zaxos.
Saturday’s medley Stableford came down to a close contest between two in-form A Graders where a countback on 38 points saw Greg Toma snatch the win over Rob Toms.
In B Grade, David Merry won the club voucher on 41 points with Ben Callaghan and Rod Ford close by with 40, and the win in C Grade went to James Pippin on 39 points, with Paul Wilton picking up second place on a countback from Ferdi Bergamin, both on 38.
NTPs: 1st – Rob Toms 96cm; 2nd – Justin Morrison (pig pin) 176cm; 10th – Gary Fumberger 550cm; 12th – Simon Kelly 130cm.
Balls went to those scoring 35 points or more for the round.
This weeks veterans competition was again won by regular winner John Williams with 35 stableford points, closely followed by Milton Clarke (34) and Jeff Giddings (33).
