Mildura COVID case rate eases slightly

THE number of COVID-19 cases in the Mildura local government area has dropped below 1000 cases per 100,000 people, leaving only Ballarat with 1000 cases or more per 100,000 residents in Victoria.

Mildura recorded 155 new cases at the weekend with Saturday’s tally of 88 falling to 67 on Sunday to leave the region’s number of active cases at 526, or 943 cases per 100,000 people.

In total, Mildura has had 7947 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, including people who have tested positive in both PCR and rapid antigen tests.

Across Victoria, 5046 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Saturday, with 219 people in hospital and 13 active cases in ICU, seven on a ventilator.

Victorians aged 12 and over have had two doses and 55.8 per cent of Victorians aged between five and 11 years have had one dose.

The Department of Health and Human Services was notified on Saturday of four deaths of people aged in their 70s and 80s, all of which occurred in late January.

Almost six million vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 5857 administered on Saturday at state-run centres.

Of those, 694 were for children aged five to 11 years, 373 of which were second doses.
