MERBEIN GOLF CLUB OPEN
Congratulations to all who participated, great result from most of Sunraysia golf clubs, special mention to Riverside Golf club members, great turn out so thank you for supporting our club.
A few “thank yous” – to all the volunteers (we are a 100 per cent volunteer-run club) at Merbein Golf Club. The club battles along and I think we surprised a few players on the weekend as to how far we have come along. Thank you to Gavin (caretaker) and all volunteers who worked tirelessly to get this event up and going, especially all who assisted at the club house with food and drinks etc.
Special thanks to Steve Russell for his fantastic work behind the computer with data entry and assisting with score cards, spreadsheets to get the results in and up to date. From the Captain, a huge “thank you” as you took a huge load off the work required to do.
Huge thanks to our major sponsors – Drummond Golf Mildura & Sunraysia Driving Range. Garth, without your continued support of this club we would not be where we are today so on behalf of the committee, members, volunteers and players – thank you, mate.

VETERANS
The next six weeks will a busy time for members of the Sunraysia & District Victorian Veteran Golfers Association. There is a variety of events and locations organised for players to participate in and enjoy.
The first will be held in a little under three weeks time. On Monday the 6th of June we meet at the Riverside Golf Club to compete in a single stableford event. The usual processes will be in place with registrations starting at 8:30 and a shotgun start at 9:30.
A fortnight after that we will be travelling down the Calder to Ouyen for their annual 4BBB stableford event. We will have the unique opportunity to experience sand scrapes. The locals are only to willing to lend a hand showing newcomers how to rake the scapes when putting.
That will be on Monday, June 14, with a later starting time to compensate for the need to travel.
Two weeks after that it will be our annual championship round. This year that will be held on Monday, July 4, at the Red Cliffs Golf Club.
If that’s not enough the Victorian Veteran Golfers Association has sent information about the statewide teams event to be held at the Stawell Golf Club in September. Details are on their website.
Veteran golfers are spoilt for choice. So if you are over fifty and enjoy playing golf please consider joining or reacquainting yourself with the association and reap the rewards. Join up at Riverside next month. See you there.
