WENTWORTH

THURSDAY’S Stableford event:

Saw the return from injury of Gary Clark, Gary’s 33 points was enough to take the chocolates on a countback from runner-up Bill Slee also on 33 points.

Ball winners were John Stephens on 31 points and Glen Walker on 29 points.

NTP on the 17th was Glen Walker with 520cm.

Mr Risky went to the ever improving Jeff Woodroffe.

Sunday’s event was Stroke and this went down to the wire with Glen Walker on top with 75 net from runner-up Bill Slee with 76 net.

Ball winners were John Stephens with 78 net and Annete Green on 80 net

NTP was Bill Slee with 370cm on the 17th.

Mr Risky went to Bill Murray with83 net, his first for the year.

RIVERSIDE

WITH the inclement weather on Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31 resulting in a lack of players meant there were no competitions.

On Wednesday, June 1 the men contested their Monthly Medal, with the overall top score of the day coming from Barry Pilgrim, picking up the award with an exceptional (80/69).

Tom Vadlja was the better after a countback in A Grade after his (79/74), from, runner-up, Michael Holcroft (80/74).

The B Grade win went to Jack Graham with a very nice round of (94/72), four shots in front of his nearest rivals, with five players fighting out a countback on 76 net. It was Paul Danenberg who came

in with the best back nine to collect second place after he finished with (98/76). Those left to ponder the putts they may have missed were, Peter George, George and Jeff Riordan and John Denman.
Balls: (8) 76 on a countback.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th and 12th – Michael Holcroft (260cm and 780cm); 7th – Peter George (510cm); Sunbeam 17th – Ken Upton (700cm); Good Deal Tyres 18th – Chris Curley (950cm).

Thursday was Monthly Medal and Putting for the ladies and it was the ladies captain, Lyn Saunders, who took the honours, with a fine (96/75). Runner-up had to be determined with a three way countback and Heather Klemm made it, just in front of Margie Dunlop and Chitra Rankin, all on 77 net.

Balls: (6) 78 net.

Lyn Saunders also finished with the lowest number of putts for the day, to score yet another win.

NTPs: Zilzies Wines 4th – Janet Luke (424cm); Sunbeam Fruits 7th – Lauris Hicks (350cm); Red Rooster 12th – Lyn Saunders (210cm); 18th Chitra Rankin (54cm).

Friday’s nine: Medley Stableford saw a win for Dallas Kalms, when he came in with a great round of 21 points. Jamie Donaldson grabbed runner-up on 20 points after a countback with Jake Cameron.

Balls: (13) 17 points on a countback.

It was a very different day on Saturday, with the Medley event allowing players to choose which tee they hit off from on each hole. In some ways it may have made it easier for some, making the length of the: shorter, but this also changes the look of the hole, which can become a challenge in itself. Those who took part enjoyed the day.

The pick your tee day was played in three grades, with Chris O’Brien coming out on top in A Grade after a countback on 37 points from James Taylor runner-up.

In B Grade a score of 38 points gave Barry Pilgram his second win for the week, over Graeme Irvin on 36 points.

It was lovely to see one of the ladies having a win and with the best score of the day, Jan Lloyd had a beautiful 39 points, taking out C Grade, in front of runner-up Peter Williams, who underwent a countback against Anthony Pasut, both on 38 points.

Twenty two balls were given, out to 34 points.

The day produced six eagles, all on the par fives. The 5th: by Craig Jervies, Michael Englefield and Josh Fleming. Dale Simon on the 14th with Brad Steer on the 11th and James Taylor on the 2nd.

Sunday’s Medley Stableford saw Andrew Thomas emerging the winner after a countback, from Noel Thomas runner-up, in front of Michael Salter, all on 36 points.

Balls: (9) 34 points.

MERBEIN

ON Wednesday, June 1 the event was par: Winner:  Andrew “Billy” Fairlie +3; runner-up: Roger Walder +2.

Balls: Howie McGaffin -1, Mark Holding -1.

Saturday, June 18: A reminder that another club stalwart in Adrian “Ruddy” Rudd will have his perpetual trophy up for grabs and this will be a Stableford event. From the committee and all members, thank you Ruddy for your continued support.

A huge thank you to the five Red Cliffs Golf Club ladies who played “The Royal” on Saturday – thank you for supporting our club.

Meat raffle winner was none other than Dave “Timmo” Timmis (finally won one).

MILDURA

THE ladies competition on Tuesday, May 31 was an American foursomes event and six pairs braved the chilly weather.

The winners were Elaine Henshall and Valerie Whitelaw with 82.87 net from runners up Sandra Hutchinson and Ruth Rodi on 84.75 net.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Margaret Morrison and  Margaret McGlashan; 12th Zilzie Wines – Ann Bowen and  Kathy Cameron.

Friday’s Stableford winner was Ruth Rodi with 30 points from runner-up Helen Treacy on 29 points.

Men’s competition on Wednesday, June 1 was a single Stableford competition and 81 players got some sunshine after a week of early winter wet weather.

A Grade winner was Peter Miatke (8) with 35 points from a very surprised runner-up in Jeff Chambers (11) on 34 points on a countback from third placed Robert Briggs also on 34 points.

B Grade saw Peter Palazzo (22) shoot the equal best score of the day with 38 points to win on a countback from Steve Peters (27) also on 38 points while in third place was Tony Dal Corobbo (30) with 35 points.

The Totally Work Wear eagles nest went off with a full nest of 24 balls going to Joe Rocca for shooting an “ace” on the 12th hole. Congratulations Joe – “every golfers dream”.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure – Ron Rowse 148cm; 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG – Joe Rocca 111cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Joe Rocca 0cm (hole in one).

Saturday was a medley stroke competition with the June monthly medal and 83 players took to the course and you could say the course was the winner overall.

A Grade winner was Troy Germane (3) with a very solid round of 72 net to win by three shots from runner-up Bruce Dickie (14) with 75 net on a countback from Frank Crouch (14) also on 75 net.

B Grade winner was Michael White (17) with a net 70 over runner-up Jason O’Brien (21) on 72 net winning on a countback over Fred Goldsworthy (21) also on 72 net.

C Grade winner with the best score of the day was Steven Russell (31) with 69 net over runner-up Ian Brodie (28) on 71 net from third placed Ben Nitschke (24) with 72 net.

Balls: 20 balls with 76 net or better collecting a ball.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure – Paul Treacy 298cm; 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG – Alan Steedman 269cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Tim Mitchell 605cm.

Today’s Wednesday midweek compettion is for the monthly mug stroke competition.

Golf club news:

The Forty Winks fourball knock out matchplay first rounds are underway. Players are to organise themselves to play and be aware of the different rules of matchplay and the handicap index.

An upcoming new competition is planned for Saturday’s competition with the inclusion of “The Ranfurly”. The competition will be a three-hole aggregate Stableford score on the 11th, 12th and  13th holes.

Write your name and score on the nearest the pin board, ties will be decided by the best 18-hole score then by the normal 18-hole countback system if required. There will be no additional cost to players.

The golf club committee has been working well to include new innovative ideas and improve the way the course is presented along with improving the overall enjoyment for members and guests.

VETERANS

LAST Monday, in cool but sunny conditions, 54 veteran golfers contested the single stableford event at Riverside. 

The association welcomed three new members Garry Swallow, Steve Smith and Annette Green. 

A contingent of 12 South Australians were part of the field. The A Grade winner was one of our new members. Steve Smith scored 38 points to win from Mark Woodhouse on 36 points. In B Grade

Ken Upton’s score of 35 gave him the win beating Tony Dal Corobbo on 34 points. Ken Upton was also the recipient of a golf ball when the raffle for the badge prize was drawn.

Ball winners with week needed a score of thirty. They were Greg Gebhart, Terry Buckingham, Ken Evans, Greg Butcher, Peter Gilmore, Jeff Gerlach, George Poriazis, David Lloyd, Dennis Grigg, Greg King, Peter George, Garry Swallow and George Riordan.

The Nearest the Pin winners were Peter George on the fourth, Howard Hankinson on the seventh, George Poriazis on the 12th and Terry Buckingham on the 18th.

Thanks to David and the team at Riverside for their preparation and support for this event.

Our next event is the Ouyen 4BBB stableford day on Monday, June 20. Remember there is a later starting time of 10am so plan to arrive around 9.30am. It is a great day and an opportunity to experience country golf at its best with their sandscrapes.

The Championship round will be held at Red Cliffs on Monday, July 4.
