Big Eagle faces nervous tribunal wait

ROBINVALE Euston ruck Ethan Gill is enduring a nervous wait to see if he will be free to play finals, pending the outcome of the SFNL Independent Tribunal on Wednesday night.

Gill was reported by field umpire Ben Frost for “intentionally striking” Ouyen United’s Jake Cresp during Saturday’s round 17 match at John James Oval.

The incident, which occurred in the first quarter of the Eagles’ 10-point win, resulted in Gill being sent off the field after receiving a red card.

All red card incidents require umpires to report the player for the case to be heard before the tribunal, but there is no set penalty for a red card offence.

Gill’s potential absence for the start of the SFNL finals in under two weeks may come as a blow to the surging Eagles who have won six straight games, including a 37-point victory over ladder leaders Irymple.

Robinvale Euston enhanced their premiership credentials after Saturday’s win over fellow SFNL title hopefuls Ouyen United, but may need the 63-game club veteran for the return clash between the sides in the first semi final on Sunday August 28.

Gill recently returned after spending seven weeks on the sideline to help Robinvale Euston to a 68-point win over Mildura in round 16.

The former Eagles’ best-and-fairest winner also suffered a hamstring injury which impacted the start of his season but he has been named among Robinvale Euston’s best in six out of his nine matches.

The tribunal hearing is set for 6pm on Wednesday night.
