Mildura City toasts title win

MILDURA City has taken home the Football Federation Sunraysia S-League Senior Men’s Title, with three rounds still to go.

The team were out on the town Monday celebrating their win after defeating Mildura United on Sunday.

Mildura City have remained undefeated this season, claiming the title with eight wins and one draw.

They have secured their top spot in front of Irymple Knights who have four wins and three losses.

Joint senior coach George Moraitis said the team had had a great season and were happy to win the title in round 13.

“We haven’t seen defeat, (there) was a five all draw with Irymple Knights (in round 7) and we got out of jail with them then,” he said.

“But that just shows the character of our club and our spirit of the team and the boys.

“It is fairly young team and we are really proud of them.”

Moraitis said the team had celebrated the title win on Sunday night and Monday, but the real game to get excited for was the weekend before.

“Probably the game to celebrate was last week’s game against Irymple Knights,” he said.

“We were 3-1 down and within 10 minutes we were 5-3 up.”

Moraitis said the club was celebrating the senior men, in addition to the women’s, reserves, under 16 boys and under 16 girls all winning their titles.

He said the club was now looking forward to the upcoming final series.

“We have got a grand final to look forward to and a finals series so anything can happen in final series,” he said.

“I’m sure teams like Irymple Knights are excited for it knowing they can push us, I think it will be good.”

In next month’s S-League finals series, a perpetual Cup and medallions are awarded to the winning team.
