Netballers’ mixed bag at state titles

SUNRAYSIA netballers impressed against tough opposition across the Netball Victoria State Titles last weekend.

Despite a “mixed bag” of results Sunraysia State Titles officer Alana Mills said both the 17 and under and 15 and under teams ground out some tough wins against good representative sides at Melbourne’s State Netball Centre.

Sunraysia’s 17 and under team finished 12th of 19 teams with six wins, 10 losses and two draws, while the 15 and under squad came 16th with five wins, 12 losses and one draw.

“The 15s had some slow starts on the Saturday which probably didn’t help them in some winnable games, but overall, the girls did a fantastic job,” Mills said.

“On the Sunday, they knocked over Chisolm who came fourth overall in a big win, which I think goes to show the level of talent we have.

“It was certainly more physical of a contest than what they are used to but they really showed a lot.

“The 17s ground out some really tough wins and managed to beat or draw with some tough opponents. Again, there were a few winnable games they missed out on but they did a brilliant job.”

Wentworth shooter Lola McInerney impressed many with her performances in the younger age group, while Jazmin Parker and Ally Leng showed why they are highly rated locally with some great 17 and under games.

“Overall, the girls would have taken away plenty from the weekend,” Mills said.

“I think they would have a better understanding of where we fit compared to other regions and potentially what things they could bring to the table for their clubs locally.

“It was also a massive effort from all the family members as well to help make sure everything functioned properly.”

Sunraysia Netball Region comprises Sunraysia Football and Netball League, Millewa Netball Association, Mildura Netball Association and Robinvale Netball Association and is one of 19 under the Netball Victoria banner.
