RIVERSIDE

RESULTS from week commencing Monday, October 3 saw Riverside hosting the District Veteran competition with the results included with the Veterans golf report.
Adel Dal Corobbo had to battle it out for her win in Tuesday’s nine hole Stableford, finishing with 20 points on a countrabck from Julie Holland also on 20 points. 
Adel took out both of the NTPs for the day with 206cm on the 12th and 930cm on the Sunbeam Fruits 18th. 

Wednesday was the Men’s Monthly Award, but unfortunately bad weather reduced the field to seven. Frank Taperell didn’t let the rain deter him, having a fine round of (85/72) for the win.

NTPs: 7th – Frank Taperell (1000cm), 12th – Frank Taperell (400cm) and Good Deal Tyres 18th – David Lloyd (390cm).

The ladies enjoyed a Stableford on Thursday and Janette Mason put together a lovely score of 39 points to come out on top, after a countback with Lyn Thompson, both on 39 points. Balls: (6) 35 points.

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Heather Klemm (510cm), 7th – Maree Irvin (950cm), Sunbeam Fruits 12th – Chitra Rankin (148cm) and 18th – Jan Lloyd (17cm).

Friday’s nine hole medley Stableford was won by Cameron Peters with a super 25 points from Daniel Thompson on 23 points. Balls: (12) 19 points on a countback.

Saturday was the ladies play off for the 2022 Monthly Award. Suzy Conquest may not have had the round she was hoping for but it was good enough to reward her with the 2022 award.

In the daily competition it was a close result in the finish with just one stroke between winner and runner-up. Pat Riordan produced a winning round of (93/72) but it took a four way countback to declare Kath Ridley runner-up (97/73) over Tracey Bryan, Linda Dickson and Selma Mayne. Balls: (3) 73 nett on a countback.

NTPs: 7th – Tracey Bryan (90cm), 12th – Roylene Bailey (142cm) and 18th – Wendy Dawson (12cm).

It was Par for the men on Saturday with some excellent scores in all grades and the overall best score of the day came from Adam Shepherd with an outstanding (+9).

Rob Garioch was the A Grade winner with (+3) from Simon Dale (+2) after a countback against Roland Tankard.

The B Grade event was determined after a countback with both the winner, Brayden Collicoat and second plac, Reece Knight, completing their rounds with a fantastic (+5). 

The same occurred in C Grade with winner and runner-up collecting an amazing (+5) as well. James Collett was first and Reece Merlin second. Balls: (23) square on a countback. 

NTPs: Zilzie Wines 4th – Jack Page (137cm), 7th – Reece Godfrey (620cm), Red Rooster 12th – Peter Williams (660cm), Sunbeam Fruits 17th – Graeme Southwell (560cm) and Good Deal Tyres 18th – Ray Cottle (295cm).

Sunday’s medley Stableford was played in two grades with Tony Coppola taking out A Grade with 39 points in front of Luke Perry with 36 points after a countback against Stephen Burgess and Andrew Diwell.

Bradley Hopkinson had a lovely round winning with 41 points from Gary Van Steenis on 38 points. Balls: (12) 36 points. 

NTPs: 4th – Wendy Dawson (96cm), 7th – Clint Babler (200cm) and Good Deal Tyres 18th (395cm). 

MERBEIN

LAST Saturday was a Stableford event with Robert Redman 37 points winning from runner-up Paul Mulder on34 points. Ball: Graeme Kerr 32 points.

NTPs: 3rd Australian Vintage Merbein – Nick Cavallo 930cm; 3rd Pigeon Dollars – Nick Cavallo 930cm; 8th Drummond / Mildura Sunraysia Golf Driving Range – Ryan Teasdale 130cm; 12th Club Voucher – Paul Mulder 62cm; 16th Merbein Lions Club – Robert Redman 420cm; 16th Merbein Lions Club “Weekly Winner” – Robert Redman 420cm. Meat Raffle Randomiser – Ryan Teasdale.

Today is a Stableford event and Saturday will be a Par event.

Please note that the competition set for the day’s play is completed by the committee and cannot be changed unless authorised by the committee.

VETERANS

LAST week the district veteran golfers enjoyed warm spring conditions while contesting the single Stableford competition held at Riverside Golf Club. Sixty-eight members and visitors participated which was the largest number of competitors this year.

In A Grade the winner was Jim Piper who scored 39 points and runner-up on a countback was Keith Williams who edged out Grant Giddings, both on 36 points.

In B Grade Rob Arnold scored an impressive 42 points with Noel Murray second on 40 points. Third place went to Bruce Mathieson on 39 points.

Ball winners needed a score of 34 or better. Those who achieved that were Kevin Jones, Bill Forrester, George Mason, Peter Gilmore, Maurice Munro, Jimmy Stephens, Garry Swallow, Lorey

Rogers, Doug Matthews, Greg Lee, Tom Wilkinson, John Green, Geoff Pearce, John Williams, Bev Matthews and Jill Gleeson.

NTP winners on the day were John Green on the 4th, Grant Giddings on the 7th, George Mason on the 12th and Tom Wilkinson on the 18th.

The association welcomed three new members, Jim Piper, Graeme Kelly and Lynne Rogers.

Thank you to the bar staff, the green keepers and the lunch ladies for their efforts in supporting the association. It was pleasing to have Steve Spooner, the sponsors representative, join us for the day.

Our next event will be held at the Merbein Golf Club on Monday, November 7. It is also our AGM.

COOMEALLA

TODAY the men will play Stableford Monthly Mug and for the women it wlll be Stroke Monthly Medal; Friday is a medley 9-hole Stableford and Saturday the men and women will compete in the American Foursomes Championships while Sunday is a medley Stableford.

Last Wednesday the men played Stableford: Winner: Greg Butcher 38 points; runner-up: Adam Philp 36 points.
Balls: (7) 38 to 35.

C Grade: Winner: Peter Bicker 40 points; runner-up: Nathan Darby 39 points; 3rd: Greg Butcher 38 points.

MILDURA

LADIES competition Tuesday, October 4 9-holes Monthly Medal Stroke: Winner was Kay Baker (34) with 38 nett from runner-up Fran Thornton (21) on 39 nett.

Tuesday 18 holes Monthly Medal Stroke:

A Grade winner was Eily Raeck (17) with an excellent 69 nett from runner-up Mabel Crouch (21) with 70 nett.

B Grade winner was Ruth Rodi (25) with 73 nett from runner-up Susan Walmsley (28) with 74 nett.

Balls: 6 balls and 74 nett or better collected.

NTPs: 1st Pete’s Pure wine – Eily Raeck 500cm; 2nd Trentham Estate – Valerie Whitelaw 260cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Glenys Anderson 14cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Marilyn Warn 300cm.

Friday ladies Stableford: Winner was Carla Sherriff (23) with 33 points on a countback from runner-up Gayle Ford (36) also with 33 points.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate – Tracey Katis 290cm. 

Men’s Monthly Mug Stroke competition was played last Wednesday. 

With heavy rain Tuesday night and most of Wednesday morning the field was dramatically reduced but 34 hearty souls ventured out on a soggy course.

Winner of the day and Monthly Mug was Gavin Harrington (18) with a creditable 71 nett to win from runner-up Jamie Lanyon (12) on 72 nett on a countback with Steve Fumberger (10) also on 72 nett.

Ball comp had 8 balls to be won and better than 74 nett on a countback collected.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG – Gavin Harrington 325cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Nigel Ingram 950cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Ross Williams 310cm.

Friday’s twilight 9-hole competition winner was Elaine Henshall (27) with 21 points from runner-up Joseph Dent (23) with 19 points on a countback with Bev Stone (37) also on 19 points.

Six balls in the ball comp and 16 points or better collected.

Saturday’s medley event had 116 players play a single Stableford for Presidents versus Captains Day where the field is split in two and scores are tallied at the end of the day. The President’s team was victorious and claims bragging rights for the next year.

A Grade winner was Michael Osborne (11) with 40 points from runner-up Maurice Warn (8) with 39 points on a countback from 3rd place Jeff Giddings also with 39 points.

B Grade winner was an inform Gavin Harrington (18) with the best score of the day with an outstanding 42 points closely followed by runner-up Nicholas Rodi (15) with 41 points and 3rd place mention to Robert Briggs (15) with 39 points.

C Grade winner was new member Chris Bush (26) with 38 points to win on a countback from runner-up Lee Sutherland (21) also on 38 points and a 3rd place mention for Geoff Dea (26) with 37 points.

NTPs: 2nd Trentham Estate/PIG $ – Gary Fumberger 239cm; 10th Trentham Estate – Geoff Hazeldine 245cm; 12th Zilzie Wines – Dennis Murray 191cm; The Ranfurly Iron Jack – Maurice Warn with 7 points – $20.

Ball comp was awarded to the winning President’s team and 58 balls were awarded.

Sunday’s competition was a medley Stableford and the winner was Keegan Blows (9) with 33 points.

On Saturday October 22 there will be a new time slot for the club’s time-honoured event of Die Hards Day.

This is a 27-hole 4BBB event with tee off at 10am for a shot gun start with lunch after nine holes and then 18 holes following at 1pm. All members are encouraged to make the effort to play the 27-hole event and make this day a success that it deserves to be.

Another working bee was held last Sunday to finish top dressing tee block and other areas of the course. Thank you again to the 15 or so attendees and good to see some different faces and share the load. The committee thanks you all.

Pennant golf started at Coomealla last Sunday and we had mixed success. Our ladies lost a close contest to the Redcliffs team 3/2. Wins to Emmalee Beggs and Jenny McCoy, well done.

Men’s results in Division 2: Mildura Black team had a halved match with Robinvale 2½ – 2½ with wins to Trevor Riordan 3/2 in his first ever pennant match, Paul Leonard 2/1 and a halved match for David Murray. Mildura Gold had a bye.

Division 3 team had a win over Riverside 3½ – 1½ with wins to Robin Hubble 3/2, Rick Foster 4/2, Alan Lay 6/5 and a halved match for Bobby Bettess.

Next round is at our home course on Sunday.

RED CLIFFS

A QUIET week at Red Cliffs last week with Wednesday’s competition being washed out, however Saturday was a beautiful day for golf. 

Saturday’s medley Stableford winners were: A Grade: Paul Dominelli on a countback from Tom Minns both on 39 points. B Grade: Steve Forrest on 35 points was the winner from Margaret Stanbrook on 34 points.

NTPs: 3rd – Sheryl Blagus and Tom Minns; 8th – Al Rainer; 9th – Glen Goodall; 12th – Mark Collett and Jill Gleeson; 15th – Sue Poole; 17th – Graham Lohmeyer; 18th – Paul Dominelli.

The final of the Taylor’s Farm Supply Team Competition was also played and 4 Jack’s and a Jill defeated the Bushwhackers. Thanks to Taylor’s Farm Supplies for their continued support.

Today we have Stableford for the men, and the ladies will play Stroke for the October Medal. On Saturday the men and the ladies will play Stroke, for the ladies it is the play-off of the Medallist of the Year.
