Candidate statement: Stella Zigouras (Labor)

WE’RE doing what matters for people in Mildura and all around regional Victoria. Labor invests in transport for our region with our promise to cap our V/Line fares at metro rates ($9.20).

Labor invests in our regional health services and returned Mildura Base Public Hospital back to public hands in September 2020 – where it should always have been.

The master plan has been finalised for our public hospital recommending a brownfields redevelopment. We will now work through what that might involve including costs, sequencing, staging, decanting and other planning and compliance work associated with redeveloping the existing hospital.

Labor helps people get the care they need for urgent but not critical issues like cuts and burns by setting up a local Priority Primary Care Centre to take pressure off our hospital.

We’re also building a new $36 million rehabilitation centre in Mildura, which will provide our people with the support they need to recover from drug and alcohol addiction.

For our young families, a re-elected Labor government will create more childcare places in the areas of highest demand by building 50 new government-owned and operated childcare centres, including one in Mildura.

I’m also really excited to be part of the work to make kinder free for every three and four-year-old from next year.

I’ve spent my life fighting for fairer outcomes for all people – ensuring everyone gets the opportunities they deserve and the support they need and, together with my Labor colleagues, I will deliver a positive and optimistic future Mildura.
