Great outcome, says independent candidate Milne

INDEPENDENT candidate and Mildura councillor Glenn Milne said the election result was “a great outcome” for The Nationals’ Jade Benham.

“I’m happy that we’ve got a conservative back in power,” Mr Milne said.

“I knew that standing as an independent with a small budget it was always going to be a tough road.

“But it was an opportunity to have a bit of a say on a number of topics that have affected our community and are still affecting it, like our rail, our roads and the absolute pathetic amount of funding that we get out of Melbourne.”

Mr Milne said that, statewide, the return of a Labor Government would do little to aid the Mildura region.

“The overall outcome of the election is a disaster for Mildura because again we’ve got (Premier Daniel) Andrews in power and he has really done nothing for Mildura at all,” he said.

“We’re looking at a pretty tough six or 12 months coming up with flooding and rebuilding roads and there’s really no support there.

“We’re getting the rough end of the stick and there’s nothing being done about it, so I’ll have a go at him every chance I get because he really doesn’t look after the whole of Victoria.”

Mr Milne said he decided to run for this year’s state election out of frustration by the inaction of the Labor Government to help rural and regional Victoria.

“Any chance I get to have a go at the Andrews government I will, because they are really not looking after country Victoria – it’s not only Mildura – it’s all the small shires and councils as well,” he said.
