FACING ladder leaders Robinvale Euston on their home deck will be a challenge for Fire Bridge, but skipper Connor Darby is backing his side in.
Fire Brigade are coming off their first win of the Red Cliffs Cricket Association campaign, albeit from just three matches due to numerous washouts.
The nine-wicket victory over Millewa was set up via a strong bowling performance, including 4/8 from Darby himself, and the captain believes if they hit the same heights, they give themselves a chance at Len Arnott Oval.
“Robinvale Euston are on top of the table so it’s going to be tough for us, but if we bowl the way we did against Millewa, we’ll give ourselves every chance,” he said.
“They obviously have a really strong batting line-up that has only gotten better with Braidyn Turner having been brought in so we need to bowl good areas, but if we can do that, hold our catches and keep the runs down in the field I give us a real chance.
“I’m just glad we could get out there and have a hit and have some fun, but to come away with a solid win as well was a big positive.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been able to have a spell like that so it was pretty nice, but it helps when you’ve got guys like Lachy Rohde making 48 not out, and we’re lucky to have good some players across the board.
“He and Jason Beard are very important at the top of the order but we’re also confident in the rest of the side that if someone has an off day someone else can make the runs.”
Darby admitted there had been some frustration at the number of washed-out games so far, but said they just have to “roll with the punches”.
In other games, Millewa host Tempy at Quandong Park, while Ouyen Rams are at home to Cardross at Blackburn Park.
