Fire rips through Cardross home

A CARDROSS home has gone up in flames after a ferocious blaze broke out on Saturday night.

At 7.52pm, 10 fire crews were called out to the corner of Dairtnunk Avenue and Nineteenth Street to find the roof of a home fully involved, and there were concerns trees surrounding the home would ignite.

Fire Rescue Victoria crews were supported by volunteers from the Red Cliffs, Irymple, Mildura and Merbein CFA units.

Breathing apparatuses were used during the firefight due to concern the property had asbestos contamination.

The fire was brought under control at 8.57pm after a one hour and five minute effort to control the fire’s spread, and fire crews left shortly after 9pm.

A newly acquired pumper platform at Fire Station Station 72 proved useful in the firefight, providing crews the ability to attack the flames from an aerial position.

A CFA media spokesperson said an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but it had not been deemed suspicious.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said an ambulance was called out to the scene, but no emergency medical care or patient transport was required.

There was no indication that any occupants of the home were present or removed from the fire.
