Stone leads with a hat-trick

A HAT-TRICK to Irymple’s Chase Stone headlined a rain affected return to Sunraysia Cricket Association Club Twenty20 matches on Thursday.

The fast bowler dismissed Mildura West trio Jack Carter, Tim Watson and Aaron Feroz in successive deliveries as the Swallows dismissed West for 98, ensuring a 36-run win.

With the bat Stone also made 19 from seven deliveries, supporting Jed Connelly (28 from 38) and Mark Thomson (20 from 12) to help Irymple to 8/124 from their 20 overs.

Locke Thornton led the way for West taking 3/21, while spinner Feroz took 2/11.

At the top of the order Tom Holmes (27 from 21) and Greg Lewis (25 from 20) got West off to a solid start, however, from 1/55 they lost 9/33 as the Swallows sewed up victory.

Stone finished with 4/9 from his four overs with Ryan Muir also taking 2/14.

Over at Alcheringa Oval, Gol Gol defeated Merbein by 19 runs as rain ended their contest early.

The home side finished their 20 overs at 3/170 with Wade Hancock (77 not out) and Shac Thomas (77) each playing blistering innings.

Merbein were 4/51 after nine overs when the rain hit with Tony Trinick unbeaten on 19.

As at the corresponding time (after nine overs) Gol Gol were 0/70 they were awarded the victory.

The weather also shortened the contest at Mildura Sporting Precinct where Mildura East got the win over Mildura Settlers by seven wickets.

The contest was reduced to 14 overs per side as Setts, led by 43 from 37 balls by Joel Perry finished at 4/75.

Muki Sharma led the East bowling with 2/9 from three overs.

An unbeaten 44-run partnership between Regan Connell (28 off 27) and Sharma (23 from 26) guided East to 3/77 with 10 deliveries to spare.

Coomealla Wentworth also recorded a solid seven-wicket victory over Nichols Point at George Gordon Oval.

Continuing his strong season, Jake Wright took 4/13 as the Pointers were rolled for 79, with Bevan Wade, Jarrod Brander and Andrew Porker each picking up two.

Dean Fulco (22 from 29) was the pick of the Point batsmen.

The Blues reached 3/80 in the 18th over led by Matt Job (29 from 48) and Mitch Kemp (22 from 27) leading the charge.

Two more rounds of T20 matches remain before the final on Thursday, February 23.
